Seeking Luxury Honeymoon Destination Under 14-Hour Flight - Any Ideas?

Question:

Happy new year everyone! I’m getting married this year and would love some recommendations for our honeymoon. We’ll travel Sept or Oct towards warmer weather, 10-14 nights, prefer not to fly more than 14 hours. We’d like a bit of luxury, but something a little unique or off the beaten track vs a cookie cutter resort.
Our dream was to stay in an overwater bungalow but don’t have $30k to spend to make that a reality
Would love to hear some suggestions in the hopes of hearing about something we might not find ourselves

Curacao is beautiful. Safe. You can drink the water. Walk around downtown safely. Rent a car and travel the island.

For rustic over the water, try Paradise at Tobacco Caye, Belize owned by the folks at Island Expeditions. Food is fabulous. They could put a custom package together including a stay at their jungle resort at Bocawina. For luxury tree houses check out Hamansi, and Ian Anderson's. Hamansi is on Hopkins Beach. They love honeymooners...

Right, but I forgot, Hamansi usually closes for maintenance and staff holidays in September as is slow season. Oct is a perfect time to visit.

I'm fairly certain you could do an overwater bungalow in Tahiti. Maybe not in Bora Bora, but one of the other islands like Moorea. They are all amazing. For 2 weeks you could island hop and see three islands. Save an overwater bungalow for part of the trip, and be a little bit more budget conscious on the other parts. Overnight in LA to break up the flights.

Fly direct from Vancouver to Fiji with fiji airways, its about 11hrs and there are some really nice resorts there that aren't crazy expensive. Book cheap flights to/from Vancouver to offset cost. I am looking into this for my 35th birthday in December

We loved Placencia, Belize. A bit pricey nowadays but you can walk everywhere. Great food and drink. You can rent a golf cart by the day, half day or week. Most awesome swimming beaches. We are currently in Costa Rica and also love it here but the water is rougher. Sept and October can be rainy/hurricane season depending on where you are going.

You have to watch for hurricane season through there. We went to Aruba because it’s south of the hurricane zone. Belize is nice. Or Costa Rica?

We went to Hawaii on our honeymoon. We flew through Los Angeles and overnighted there and went for dinner. So they broke up the trip and it was a nice stopover.
Hawaii has good weather that time of year. We got married October 9! (many years ago!). Hawaii was recommended to us because the weather is good and you don’t have the hurricane season as you do in the Caribbean that time of year.
There are some interesting places to stay and visit in Hawaii. Not just the big resorts. We stayed on the big island for awhile and traveled throughout the island. There’s many different climate zones there, an active volcano. Lots of interesting things to see. It’s a really interesting place. Stayed in some bed-and-breakfasts there.
We also went to Kauai which is much more of a nature area than more touristy areas places like Maui or Honolulu. It’s been a while since we’ve been there so maybe a lot more has been built up in Kauai.
Greece could be a good destination that time of year. With lots of options.
Or if you’re interested in more touring and a different culture. Japan is great. And there’s lots of variety including beach resorts if you’re interested but lots of great sightseeing and culture to soak in.

We did our honeymoon in September and we went from Toronto to London, Paris, Amsterdam Venice, Rome, Mykonos, Athens, and then back home. It was the best trip we have ever been on. Our agent set up all of the planes, trains transfers, etc. and we spent approximately 3 days at each location. We stayed in decent hotels, and while we were in each location, we were free to come and go as we pleased and my husband figured out what we were going to do at each city.

It’s about 17 hours flying time - but you could do Sri Lanka and then do a quick hop over to the Maldives for a couple days of over water luxury. It’s a short 1 to 2 hour flight from there and Sri Lanka is amazing and very affordable.

You can also skip to other locations that are close by, such as Bodrum and Marmaris, both are must-see. Turquoise waters, great food, lots of shopping options for good quality clothing or souvenirs.
And finish it off at Cappadocia with hot air balloons. Even if you don't go on the balloon, it is so magical to watch them go up for the sunrise every morning. Perfect location for a honeymoon. Take the guided day tour for underground cities, then hit the Turkish Night for entertainment with unlimited drinks and food. Go to pottery workshops and make your own clay pot. You will not regret any second of the whole trip. Feel free to dm if you have any questions. And congrats!

Best Honeymoon Destination Recommendations

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Planning a honeymoon is an exciting part of the wedding process, and I'm here to help you find the perfect destination for your special trip. Since you're looking to travel in September or October towards warmer weather, for 10-14 nights, and prefer not to fly more than 14 hours, I have a few recommendations for you.

1. Santorini, Greece

Santorini is a beautiful and romantic destination known for its stunning sunsets, white-washed buildings, and crystal-clear waters. You can stay in a luxury cave hotel overlooking the Aegean Sea and enjoy the unique charm of this island. It's a perfect blend of luxury and off-the-beaten-path experience.

2. Bali, Indonesia

Bali is a tropical paradise with lush jungles, beautiful beaches, and vibrant culture. You can stay in a private villa with a pool and enjoy the tranquility of the island. Bali offers a mix of luxury and adventure, with plenty of unique experiences to explore.

3. Maldives

While overwater bungalows in the Maldives can be expensive, there are more affordable options available. You can stay in a beachfront villa or a water villa at a resort that offers luxury amenities and a unique experience. The Maldives is a perfect destination for a romantic and relaxing honeymoon.

I hope these recommendations help you find the perfect honeymoon destination that fits your preferences. Congratulations again on your upcoming wedding, and I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness!
