We’re going to the Mayan Riviera for the 3rd time! Love it there. You get the best bang for your buck there I think.

Puerto Vallarta would be a good option. Jamaica is nice too however I prefer Mexico. More to do. Jamaica is a bit more expensive. Fewer unique excursions. If choosing Jamaica, pay attention to cruise schedules as excursions can get crowded. Appleton rum tour is nice and different waterfalls.

Jamaica has great food, great music, great rum and local beer, and awesome locals. Just sayin
(we head there Friday to get married!)

Dominican is a lot better than Jamaica IMO (been to both).

I’d definitely pick Jamaica over Dominican - but only been to both once - so not an expert...

Have you considered Costa Rica? It's beautiful here right now!!! Lots of things to do and see or be as relaxed and do as little as possible! I have two condos for rent in playas del coco which is about 20 minutes from the Liberia airport. Message me for more details!

We just got back from our trip to Jamaica and it was awesome! We didn't do the resort thing, we rented a car so we could explore on our schedule and we stayed in airbnbs. The only thing I didnt like was the never-ending hustling... Worse than I've experienced in any other country. By the end we barely noticed though lol

Super different kind of locations. Are you looking for all inclusive or condo? Do you stay on resort or like to tour around ? Any concerns with zika ?

Jamaica is our favourite. After going to Jamaica we said we’d never go back to Mexico again.

Jamaica is amazing but don’t cheap out on the hotel. Busy large hotels like iberostar have crowded beaches and loud guest areas. Best places I’ve stayed is Couples and Sandals resorts. Worth the extra money per person.

Spent time in Jamaica a couple times on a cruise. If you stay in a resort I'm sure it would be fine. Vendors are very aggressive and it can be scary in parts.

Love love Dominican. Very reasonable tours. We stayed in Peurto Plata.

Haven't been to Dominican, but loved Negril, Jamaica. Didn't stay in an All Inclusive, but we were fine walking everywhere and into town, even at night.. Lots of fun being on the beach, eating patties, watching people and just taking it all in. Not a cheap destination, though, as they mainly use US $ as currency these days.

Jamaica - Runnaway bay or Ocho Rios areas for All inclusive or Port Antonio for a quieter but more pricey experience. Very welcoming and lots to do and food is sooooo good. Been to Negril, Kingston as well.

Exploring the Caribbean: Dominican Republic vs Jamaica

If you've already experienced the delights of Varadero, Cancun, and the Bahamas, it's time to venture further into the Caribbean and discover the unique charms of the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. Both destinations offer an array of natural beauty, vibrant culture, and unforgettable experiences, but each has its own distinct character.

Dominican Republic: A Tropical Paradise

The Dominican Republic is a true gem in the Caribbean, boasting stunning beaches, lush landscapes, and a rich history. Punta Cana, one of the country's most popular resort areas, is a paradise for beach lovers, with its pristine white sands and turquoise waters. Venture beyond the resorts, and you'll find charming colonial cities like Santo Domingo, where you can explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of La Zona Colonial.

Outdoor enthusiasts will be spoiled for choice in the Dominican Republic. Hike through the lush valleys of the Cordillera Central mountain range, explore the enchanting waterfalls of Damajagua, or dive into the crystal-clear waters of the country's countless snorkeling and diving sites.

Jamaica: Reggae, Rum, and Relaxation

Jamaica is a vibrant and culturally rich destination that captures the essence of the Caribbean. Known for its laidback vibe, infectious reggae music, and warm hospitality, Jamaica offers a unique experience that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and captivated.

Negril, with its famous Seven Mile Beach, is a popular spot for sun-seekers and water sports enthusiasts. Venture into the lush interior, and you'll discover the majestic Blue Mountains, where you can hike through verdant rainforests and visit coffee plantations.

Jamaica's cultural offerings are equally enticing. Immerse yourself in the history of Bob Marley and reggae music in Kingston, or explore the iconic Dunn's River Falls, where you can climb up the cascading waterfalls surrounded by lush tropical foliage.

Making the Choice

Both the Dominican Republic and Jamaica offer incredible experiences, but the choice ultimately depends on your preferences and travel style. If you're seeking a more relaxed, beach-centric vacation with opportunities for outdoor adventures, the Dominican Republic might be the perfect fit. However, if you're drawn to vibrant cultural experiences, reggae music, and a laidback Caribbean vibe, Jamaica could be the ideal destination.

Whichever destination you choose, you'll be immersed in the captivating charm of the Caribbean, creating unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime.
