I'm in Dahab, Egypt right now. It's in the Desert so it will not rain, it's safe and it's cheap (breakfast is about $3 USD and includes juice and coffee). In my opinion, this is the most relaxed and beautiful part of Egypt. It's right on the Red Sea and is paradise for divers, snorklers, sea food lovers and sun lovers! No mosquitos here, sleeping outside at night is an amazing experience. Has a Thailand feel to it, but funkier and cleaner. I'm here for one month and loving every second! Also it's very easy to go to the Pyramids or Luxor for a day trip! Local airport is Sharm El Sheikh!

I'll second this. I've lived in Egypt for the last three years and find it to be very safe. Hurghada, Gouna, Sharm, or Dahab would all be great options for a Honeymoon. The only downside is that it's quite far to travel from Vancouver.

I was in the same boat as you. We ended up booking for the Bahamas. No Zika virus there according to the Centre for control and disease. It is during hurricane season, but I've heard that just could mean a little more rain than normal. We also looked at the St Lucia, Haiti, Bora Bora, but those were out of our price range.

That's interesting that you would look at visiting Haiti. It is a very dangerous country due to crime and political unrest. Have you been before?

"At the current time, there are no reported cases in Baja California or Baja California Sur. But it is probably just a matter of time, as we move into our tropical wet season later this summer. Cases are likely to appear in all mosquito areas, well north into the central portions of the US."

If you research a bit further, you will find Hawaii & the rest of the United States do not have locally acquired zika. Meaning it was travel acquired & not present amongst the local mosquitoes. I'd personally not worry about it. At all. But then again I was in Hong Kong in the middle of the SARS thing. Which seemed nothing more than good old fashioned media sensationalism. Everyone loves an epidemic scare!

Except Puerto Rico... 2,500 cases and counting.. Mexico only has ~ 250

Both not the United States. Which I believe is what I referred to specifically

Zika is now everywhere. Do people get dungue or malaria when going to the Philippines, India ,Brazil, Belize.. etc.. the answer is No. Zika is a awareness for those planning to have unprotected sex in tropical countries. I wouldn't let that deferred you for going anywhere around the world . Zika as been found in Ontario Canada

Please just go online and look at the updated map and see where it is and is not as it is NOT everywhere

its in all tropical places from Brazil to the Philippines. you could do Hawaii and the Polynesian islands. Bermuda is too windy and like Antigua,,its very very expensive from the westcoast and very long flights.. Go to Maui. prices are great right now.. use VRBO as a search engine and ask owner via message owner if they have a website so you can book via their website to save 19-25% from VRBO fees.

Thanks everyone, I'm leaning towards Bali. Renting a villa in Seminyak

air China and China Eastern had a $495 seat sale . call flight centre see what they can do. I highly recommend EVA Air on their 747 out of Vancouver. Great service. still uses the thick plush seats with the best recline in economy. also alcohol included. call to see if they have any seats available upper deck where you get business class seats for economy price

We're going To Bali in September and we went to get our vaccines and the dr told us Zika is there and to use protection or abstain and to not try for a baby for 6 months

Profile picture of Jessica

Jessica

Really? I can't find anything on the CDC website about Zika in Bali

Profile picture of Samantha

Samantha

yeah apparently? I mean like the person said below, it's been there forever and cdc is like the top end of fear and disease etc. But she definitely told us to use protection regardless of if we were trying for kids or not as it is transferable male to female and female to male. Like an std. And it's also a symptomatic in most people. Less then 20% of people with it actually have any symptoms. So I figure error on the side of caution. Its certainly something I don't want to take lightly. So it's all what you're comfortable with right. Chances are we would t end up waiting the whole 6 months. Probably a couple though but who knows!

Jessica

Yeah. I think the risk is lower there than say mexico.. I think you can get tested when you arrive home too. Thanks!

There is a travel advisory for Puerto Vallarta now for Zika ! It was just issued ... Hawaii or California might be your best bet but even Florida has Zika now

Hi. It is only speculated (not proven) that the Zika virus is dangerous for pregnant women or those who may become pregnant based on recent events in Brazil. The zika virus is not new, nor is it deadly (mild symptoms lasting 3-7 days). You would probably have just as much risk of dengue fever or malaria infection via mosquito in tropical countries. Always use mosquito protection- which goes without saying.

Samantha your doctor is probably going by the World Health Organization recommendations which a part of the recommendations are: 3. Couples or women planning a pregnancyb who are
returning from areas where transmission of Zika virus is
known to occur, are strongly recommended to wait at
least 8 weeks before trying to conceive to ensure that
any possible Zika virus infection has cleared; and 6
months if the male partner was symptomatic.

Zika-Free Beach Honeymoon Recommendations

Planning a honeymoon in October 2016 can be tricky due to hurricane season and the prevalence of the Zika virus in many tropical destinations. However, there are still plenty of beautiful and Zika-free beach destinations to consider for your romantic getaway.

1. Hawaii

Hawaii is a popular honeymoon destination known for its stunning beaches, lush landscapes, and vibrant culture. Since Hawaii is not affected by the Zika virus, it is a safe choice for a worry-free honeymoon. You can explore the islands of Oahu, Maui, Kauai, or the Big Island and enjoy activities like snorkeling, hiking, and traditional luaus.

2. Maldives

The Maldives is a dreamy destination for a beach honeymoon with its overwater bungalows, crystal-clear waters, and white sandy beaches. This secluded paradise is also Zika-free, making it an ideal choice for couples looking for a luxurious and romantic escape.

3. Seychelles

The Seychelles is another Zika-free destination that offers pristine beaches, tropical forests, and unique wildlife. You can relax on the beaches of Mahe or Praslin, go snorkeling in the clear waters, or explore the Vallee de Mai Nature Reserve for a truly unforgettable honeymoon experience.

4. Canary Islands

If you prefer a European beach destination, the Canary Islands off the coast of Spain are a great option. With their volcanic landscapes, sandy beaches, and year-round sunshine, these islands offer a Zika-free alternative for a beach honeymoon in October.

Remember to always check the latest travel advisories and health recommendations before planning your honeymoon to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, and best wishes for a magical honeymoon!
