Staying close to the BTS (skytrain equivalent) or somewhere nearby that offers a complimentary tuktuk shuttle made it easy to get around! We found the BTS very user friendly, cheap, and clean. Also, waaaay faster than cabbing in many cases from what we heard! At the suggestion of a friend who lives in Bangkok, we stayed along the light green / Sukhumvit line of the BTS (near the Phloen Chit station)... was easy to get around from there. Definitely wouldn't recommend the particular hotel we stayed at though haha

PS- I'm sure you've already come across this, but Agoda is a great site for booking accommodation in Asia
Enjoy your trip!

I stayed here a few years ago .... wasn’t fancy but was clean and cheap. Two blocks to the BTS and the road it’s on is famous for the food vendors. One of the best meals I ever had was at one of those plastic tables in the street. Food vendors are open super late at night and the atmosphere was great. Lots of other stuff within walking distance as well.

The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free
You'll find a god in every golden cloister
And if you're lucky then the god's a she
