We spend a month every February in a little town called La Manzanilla 45 minutes north of the Manzanillo airport. Chill place. Good food best west coast beach. No resorts or hotels

Oaxaca is amazing. I used to work for a coffee company that grew its beans there. The villages in the mountains are great. The locals are amazing. The coffee company is called Frog Friendly Wild Coffee if your interested in learning more about the region. The owner is Karla, she spent a lot of time there and I'm sure she would love to help. If you decide to reach out, tell her I gave her name. She's lovely. Have fun!

Exploring the Cultural Gems of Mexico
Mexico is a country with a rich and diverse cultural heritage, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in its vibrant traditions, stunning architecture, and mouth-watering cuisine. While the resort towns and party destinations are well-known, venturing off the beaten path can lead to some truly unforgettable experiences.
Mexico City: The Beating Heart of Mexico
Your list already includes Mexico City, and for good reason. This bustling metropolis is a true melting pot of cultures, where ancient and modern coexist harmoniously. Spend at least 4-5 days here to explore the historic center, including the iconic Zócalo square, the National Palace, and the impressive Museo Nacional de Antropología. Don't miss the chance to indulge in the city's renowned street food and vibrant markets.
Oaxaca: A Colorful Cultural Gem
Oaxaca is another excellent choice on your list. This colonial city is renowned for its indigenous culture, stunning architecture, and world-famous cuisine. Spend 3-4 days exploring the charming historic center, visiting the impressive Monte Albán archaeological site, and immersing yourself in the vibrant arts and crafts scene. Be sure to try the delicious moles and mezcal, for which Oaxaca is famous.
Puebla: A UNESCO World Heritage Site
Consider adding Puebla to your itinerary. This colonial city, located just a few hours from Mexico City, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its stunning churches, including the iconic Puebla Cathedral. Spend 2-3 days wandering the colorful streets, admiring the Talavera pottery, and savoring the city's renowned cuisine, including the famous mole poblano.
Mérida: The Cultural Heart of the Yucatán
If you have time, venture further east to the vibrant city of Mérida. This colonial gem is a excellent base for exploring the Yucatán Peninsula's rich Mayan heritage, including the iconic ruins of Chichen Itzá and Uxmal. Spend 3-4 days in Mérida, soaking up the city's art, music, and culinary scene, and taking day trips to nearby archaeological sites.
No matter which cities you choose to visit, Mexico promises to captivate you with its rich cultural tapestry and warm hospitality. Embrace the opportunity to immerse yourself in the local traditions, savor the delicious cuisine, and create unforgettable memories.

Hey all... so planning on heading to Mexico to start my trip next year. Any advice? What cities should I see that aren't resort/surfing/party towns? How long should I spend in each?
Right now I have Mexico City, Oaxaca and San Cristóbal de las Casas on my list.
