We did a supper with a local. Went to their home where we made traditional sushi and he made us matcha tea. Lots of visiting. Topped it off with a visit to the grocery store where they showed us the ingredients to buy. Wonderful experience.
Gloria
Denise did you organize this through your hotel? Through a tour company?
Denise
Gloria no I had booked it online. We gave them info on us and matched us with a like couple. Sorry I don’t remember the organization

If you are going to other places in Japan, try Koya mountain. Stay in a monastery and do a
night tour of sacred cemetery.
Gloria
Nata this sounds amazing. I am researching right now.

I just read a really great book called Clueless in Tokyo - it's gorgeously illustrated and might give you some slightly off the beaten track ideas.
Gloria
Kate thanks for the tip. I just ordered it from the library.

Step into a maid café for a truly unique and slightly surreal experience. These cafés, primarily found in Akihabara, feature waitresses dressed in elaborate maid costumes who engage in playful interactions and performances with customers.
