Anyone know what is the best credit card for gaining free flights?

We use the RBC Avion business card and it's great. There are Avion cards for personal use as well.

Avion points get you an economy seat on any plane, any time, anywhere.

Avion and transfer them to BA when they have the 1.5 times

Just be aware you pay taxes and fees as extra
Example-flights from YVR to Gatwick last September.
BA and air canada - ticket price $ 550. Txs & Fees $650.
iceland air - ticket price $1000. Txs & fees $250.
We saved $800 + a stop over in Iceland (free up to 7 days). And I should mention that BA, air canada and iceland air all need 65,000 Avion points (Canada to Europe), whatever their ticket price.

I think the Amex gold is best followed by capital one aspire. My wife uses avion, don't care much for it. Really depends on your spending habits too.

Avion has no flight restrictions and you can use the points to cover the taxes and fees as well... extremely flexible and easy to use

I'll vouch for the RBC Avion too. I use a lot of other points cards and so far this is the best.

RBC AVION. For domestic flights use just RBC. For international, convert to American Aadvantage. Then you can book on any one world airline with lowest taxes and fees. American, us airways, Alaska air, cathay pacific, japan airlines, etihad air. Lots of choices.

I use the RBC points and you can fly to multiple destinations with only using the one set of points. We went from Kelowna to Orlando stayed a week flew to Miami went on a cruise for a week and then flew back to Kelowna from Miami using only 35,000 points each. I did the same thing again Kelowna-Montreal-Toronto-Kelowna. Technically you could do a trip around the world using only 100,000 points. U pay taxes though.

I have the Avion Visa through RBC and I love it. last year it paid for my round trip, direct flight to Hawaii from Vancouver, BC. my boyfriend paid $950. It cost me 45,000 points.

i should mention there is an annual fee.. but you can fly with any airline and there are no blackout days or times. was super easy.

100,000. I've booked to Thailand several times (company credit cards helps a great deal).

My husband and I flew return to Prague 2 years ago using Avion points ... we have accumulated enough points for another trip to Europe this fall.

I like aeroplan & have been using for more than 10 yrs. It needs only 75,000 to Thailand.

Don't get Air Miles. It takes forever and ever to accumulate points. I have been saving (putting all my purchases on my Amex card) for almost 15 years, and I STILL don't have enough points to get to London UK. And now, there is hardly anything you can buy (such as Starbuck cards, which they used to offer) with your points. As soon as I find a way of using my points, I am going elsewhere. By the way, my daughter has Avion and loves it.

You get 1 point for each dollar you spend. Use your Avion card for absolutely everything - (and it goes without saying to pay it off each month. There - I said it anyway). If you have a business use the same type of card and have the points transferred over to your personal one each month. Good luck - and happy spending.

A bit of a story about Air Miles. I finally collected enough for 2 tickets to Thailand - by their reckoning. Spent about 3 hours on the phone trying to find a flight available with 2 seats. None in Oct, none in Feb, none in March. Each request took about 20 minutes to answer. Finally I asked - are there ever any seats using Air Miles to Thailand? Answer within 10 seconds - NO. What an unbelievable waste of time.

Get one of those free Amex cards for a year and transfer them over and cancel before the year is done. The intro points will start you off with a free flight

I thought Avion covered taxes, but last time I tried to book they charged taxes. Was I doing something wrong?

Hi Laurie - you can use Avion points to cover taxes - if you are booking flights through your RBC online banking just make sure you click on the option that says $1=100 points and you can use as many points as you want to cover the entire flight or just a portion of it. So a flight that costs $850 including taxes you would use 85,000 points. Otherwise flights to Europe use 65,000 points + taxes.

Great question. I've been doing research/comparisons between points and cash back cards to see which ones are the best bang for the buck so all this info is great!

For the TD Infinite you get 3 points for every dollar you spend. 10,000 points is equal to 50.00 in TD rewards that you can spend on any travel. Don't have to book through TD exclusively.... If you do they have teamed up with Expedia.ca ..... Check out their site www.tdrewards.com

If you sign up for Avion you get 15,000 free points and they usually waive the first year's fee. I have heard you can get the yearly fee waived each year if you threaten to cancel your card but I haven't tried it.

Andrea & Raj, they just changed Capital One Aspire's rewards program. I have yet to call and discuss, but found it odd that I was sent a new card two months ago when my current one has two years until expiry. They changed the sign up bonus (was 35,000 points so $350) and there is no annual bonus of 10,000 points anymore.
I haven't activated the new card yet because I threw away the fine print, and foresee them pulling some sort of bait and switch about how rewards miles are calculated...

I havellots of airmiles. But to use them for a particular flt that is supposed to be 3300 pSt, when doing actual booking, 3300 point seats not available. However couple seats for 4400 pts available. And I am only talking of Cranbrook bc to Winnipeg return. Disgusting...$20 for 1 pt. Does anyone know how I can transfer these to some other card and if so, what card? Do not want to pay annual fee.

We just bought our car about $16,000 plus ano everyone gathered round at dealership to see it go on bro madtercard for airmiles. But we pd $300 extra for this privilege. Phoned MasterCard first tho. It was fun buying a car on mastercard. Of course we paid it off at end of month. Great experience but not much airmiles considering how many airmiles it takeys for even a short felt.

Paying extra dollars for airmiles(and $300 at that!)... you must be crazy! I wouldn't spend one extra dollar for airmiles... over time they change to rules, devalue to points needs and change and/or increase the number of flying zones. People think they're getting a great deal and it seems are even suckered into essentially paying for these so-called perks.
