Me-An thank you! eSIM, I assume?
Me-An
Rapee It looks like the one I purchased is for Europe. However, for HK you can get 5G for $35.

At the airport you can buy (and return for refund) the Suica (top-up) card. It is good on transportation, many stores to purchase food, drink. I forget the building - you can go up for free and have a neat view of the city.
Rapee
Paul Thank You! I will google Suica card! Also, do people use cash, ie if so, do I get it from ATM using my debit card? Can I use Apply pay?
Paul
Rapee Cash is accepted. ATM you can use - ask at your bank about user fees, you may get dinged twice. The lical ATM company + your home bank + exchange rate. Credit cards are okay, as locals use their phones to pay.

Holiday Inn on Nathan Rd. Fabulous luncheon buffet as well••
Rapee
Barbara sadly nothing available for 3 people, but will keep lunch buffet in mind. Thank you!

In Japan, you can purchase/borrow a "pocket wifi" from the airport (I think you need to pre-order it), which gives you unlimited wifi wherever you go and then you return it before you fly home. We didn't bother getting a local SIM. There were lots of restaurants that accepted credit cards. For hotels, we stayed at the Sardonyx Hotel (the one in Ginza) and then the Gracery Hotel (has a huge Godzilla on top) in Shinjuku. Both were great!
Rapee
Hasmig thank you! I just googled pocket wifi - never even heard of this! Rate of around $5/day for japan wireless is totally worth it.
Kelvin
Hasmig These days, you are probably better off with an esim service if your phone is compatible. No need to carry around, charge, and power on/off a pocket wifi.
Bob
Hong Kong do the Big Buddha, tram ride awesome views. Do the steps to the top...worth it! Also do a harbour cruise at night.

Agoda is my go to website for hotels in Japan
you can find some really good deals on it for rooms

Traveling to Tokyo and Hong Kong - Tips and Recommendations
Hi Everyone,
We’re a party of 3 traveling to Tokyo and Hong Kong for 2 weeks. Looking for hotel recommendations, favorite places to visit, technology tips (SIM card), and any other advice. I’ve actually been to both places about 20 years ago, but I’d love to get tips and insights from recent visits. Thanks in advance!
Hotel Recommendations
For Tokyo, consider staying in the Shinjuku or Shibuya areas for easy access to shopping, dining, and transportation. Some popular options include Park Hyatt Tokyo, Mandarin Oriental Tokyo, and the Keio Plaza Hotel. In Hong Kong, look for accommodations in Central or Tsim Sha Tsui for convenient access to attractions and public transport. The Peninsula Hong Kong, Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, and the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong are top choices.
Favorite Places to Visit
In Tokyo, don't miss the iconic Tokyo Tower, the historic Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, and the bustling Tsukiji Fish Market. For a taste of traditional Japanese culture, visit the beautiful Meiji Shrine in Shibuya. In Hong Kong, explore the vibrant street markets of Mong Kok, take a tram ride to Victoria Peak for stunning city views, and enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui.
Technology Tips (SIM card)
For staying connected in both Tokyo and Hong Kong, consider purchasing a local SIM card at the airport or from convenience stores. This will give you access to data for navigation, communication, and social media without incurring expensive roaming charges. Make sure your phone is unlocked before arriving to use the SIM card.
Other Advice
Be sure to try the delicious street food in both Tokyo and Hong Kong, and don't be afraid to explore off the beaten path to discover hidden gems. Take advantage of the efficient public transportation systems in both cities to save time and money on getting around. And most importantly, immerse yourself in the unique culture and hospitality of Japan and Hong Kong for a truly memorable trip.
Safe travels!
