Udon Shin in the Shinjuku district is amazing. It’s a small place and you may have to wait but it’s worth it!
Clarissa
Yokohama is quite nice. Maybe if you have time go further down to kamakura or enoshima, or zushi

I'm a true fan of ichiran ramen. Fast and delicious and the best ramen I've had.
As for day trip, Kamakura gives you just about everything you could ask for, including a nice beach.

Martha hank you. is that where the snow monkeys are?
Martha
Sheryl I don't think so. At least I didn't see any. Hakone is a mountain town and has great views of mt. Fuji. You can take a boat ride along lake Ashi too.

Last-Minute Adventure in Tokyo
Tokyo, the vibrant and ever-evolving metropolis, never fails to captivate visitors with its unique blend of ancient traditions and modern wonders. If you're planning a spontaneous trip to this city in October, you're in for a treat! Here are some recommendations for restaurants where you don't need to make reservations months in advance and some interesting day trips to consider.
Delectable Dining Without the Wait
1. Ramen Jiro
Ramen enthusiasts, rejoice! Ramen Jiro is a must-visit destination for those craving authentic and delicious ramen. This no-frills eatery in Shinjuku is known for its rich, flavorful tonkotsu (pork bone) broth and perfectly cooked noodles. The best part? You can walk right in without reservations.
2. Genki Sushi
If you're in the mood for sushi on the go, Genki Sushi is an excellent choice. This popular kaiten (conveyor belt) sushi chain offers a wide variety of sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese delicacies at reasonable prices. Grab a seat, and let the sushi come to you – no reservations required!
3. Yakitori Alley in Yurakucho
Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Yakitori Alley, a hidden gem in Yurakucho. This alleyway is lined with intimate izakayas (Japanese-style pubs) specializing in yakitori (grilled skewered meat and vegetables). Grab a seat at one of the counters and indulge in a mouthwatering selection of yakitori while sipping on cold beer or sake.
Fascinating Day Trips from Tokyo
1. Nikko
About two hours north of Tokyo lies the picturesque town of Nikko, famous for its stunning shrines, temples, and natural beauty. The Toshogu Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a must-visit with its ornate architectural details and lavish decorations. Take a leisurely stroll through the beautiful Shinkyo Bridge and explore the serene Kanmangafuchi Abyss.
2. Kamakura
Kamakura, a charming coastal town, offers a perfect day trip from Tokyo. Known for its ancient Buddhist temples and stunning beaches, Kamakura is a perfect escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Visit the iconic Great Buddha statue at Kotoku-in Temple and explore the picturesque Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.
3. Hakone
Treat yourself to a day of relaxation and natural beauty in Hakone. This scenic area is renowned for its hot springs, stunning views of Mount Fuji (weather permitting), and unique attractions like the Hakone Open-Air Museum and the Hakone Ropeway. Don't miss the chance to soak in a traditional onsen (hot spring bath) and savor the breathtaking vistas.
Whether you're seeking culinary adventures or exploring the surrounding regions, Tokyo promises an unforgettable experience during your spontaneous week-long adventure in October.

Last minute trip to Tokyo for a week in October. Would love to hear about some of your favorite restaurants (where you don't need to make reservations 3 months in advance!) Also looking for interesting day trips from Tokyo. I have been to Tokyo a few times in the last five years so have seen many of the classics but if there is something new and different, please do share. Thanks!
