Looking at booking a flight to SE Asia soon... Recommendations on airlines to use to get there from YVR? china eastern Air seems to have some of the cheapest prices (for multiple starting point destinations I've looked at), is it an okay airline or should I pay more for another?

Eva Airline , cathay pacific, and of course air canada

We paid a small amount extra last month to fly EVA to Taiwan/Thailand from YVR and the flights were awesome each way. Best service and food I've ever had in the air and lots of knee room in coach.

yes look at eva airline...they often have shorter layovers....very good prices booking direct on their website with no middle men to mess you up

I flew ANA last time. Great prices! Great service! Perhaps middle road for comfort but good prices!

china eastern has really, really small seats. It was quite uncomfortable, and the in air entertainment wasn't the greatest. I would recommend paying a bit more and go with a nicer airline.

If the price difference is not too much, cathay pacific is absolutely awesome!

i flew china eastern to australia. it was fine, the food was ok as long as you picked the chinese option instead of the western option, they had tvs. seats were a bit hard. it was worth it for the money we saved

We scooped at 700.00 deal to Bangkok last fall about this time. With ANA…thanks to Chris. Haven't seen one like that yet….

Don't cheap out on long flights. $200 extra is nothing when we're talking convenience and comfort on 12hr+ flights. Cathay, EVA, AC as mentioned before are great.

Watch for unusually long layovers in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tokyo, etc., when checking flights that are not direct. Many times it can be worth the extra cost to fly direct to Hong Kong with cathay pacific or air canada and avoid the long layovers which themselves can come with some extra costs, especially if you need a hotel in the layover city.

air canada has terrible food comparing with Asian airlines ( they have better price as well)

China air was fine id fly them again

We've flown both Cathay and japan airlines both were excellant

FYI airlines reduce their prices on Tues 1159pm. So Wednesday at 0000 hrs is when they reduce the fares. Just thought I would let you all know.

^That is not entirely accurate. There are many different algorithms for airlines calculating airfares.

I'm going from April 18, to May 6 multi city flying YVR to Phuket, then Bangkok toBali, BALI return home was $1047 and got 300$ off (td points) cathay pacific !!!

I paid $1090 from yvr to bkk with air canada and Cathay dec 28-jan13. The Chinese airlines were cheaper but I chose this option because I only have two hrs in HK on the way there and three hrs on the way back which is the perfect time for a layover. I prefer Cathay, China airlines or EVA personally

Avoid china eastern like the PLAGUE. Flight attendants were beyond rude, the seats are made of concrete.I have flown them 2-4 times because of convience only, never again.If you must fly with china eastern, bring some type of padding for the seat.Its better to pay a little extra $$$ for a long haul flight.Good luck

I would never fly China Air again!

I've flown Chiba Easter to and from Guangzhou on my way to Thailand. . During the flight my bum was numb from the hard seat, narrow seat and the very limited knee room. Not my favourite experience. The flight from Guangzhou to Phuket, half the length was in a much more comfortable seat with way better legroom. I kept wishing I'd had the same plane for the transpacific journey.
