I’m not sure you can cross borders with a rental car...
Sam
You can. Friends of mine just did France, Germany, Czech Republic.
Sharon
Sam ok, great! 2 yrs ago we could not cross the border with a rental from Luxembourg to Germany
Sam
Sharon ... Not sure whether my friends had to seek a particular rental company/contract or not. I just know they managed it!
Josh
Thanks, I'll double check. Nothing worse than being stuck in just one country!
Alyssa
you totally can. we just did Hungary, Czech, Germany, Austria all in one go. And last time did France, Belgium, Netherlands. It's just Eastern Europe where there are sometimes limits (some places won't allow Poland). Happy travels.

Colmar is the cutest. Fredericksburg is also nice

Bruges is a lovely, quaint open air museum type town.
In The Netherlands,The Zaanse Schans is worth a day trip, again an open air museum. Having a young one outside with lots to look at!

Visit Bruges and Ghent in Belgium. And in Amsterdam, be sure to visit Albert Cuyp market and eat a meal at De Duvel: https://www.deduvel.nl/en/

For the east of France, I recommend checking out Ribeauville, Riquewihr and Colmar in the Alsace/Grand Est region. Each of these old towns features cobblestone streets lined with half-timbered medieval and early Renaissance buildings. Great food and wine too! We stayed at Hotel de la Tour in Ribeauville (https://www.hotel-la-tour.com/en/hotel-de-la-tour) and it was very good, Be aware though that it isn't (or wasn't ) air conditioned and got very hot when we were there in 30+ degree heat in late July. If you do visit the area, be sure to try the tarte flambée, a specialty of Alsace that is like a pizza... very delicious.

Thanks Steve. That's awesome. I'll check the places out. Always good to experience different surrounds

Chateau D’Alteville is a lovely B+B that’s been in the same family for ages; it’s not far from the Belgian border, in Tarquimpol. Highly recommend!

Family Travel Recommendations
Hello group, we are a family of three with a 2-year-old traveling to Zurich and then up through the Black Forest (via car) to Amsterdam (stay there three nights) before heading back to Zurich stopping along the way in Belgium and the east side of France.
Would love some recommendations on places to see and stay, things to try, and places/items to consume. Outdoors, indoors, and something different always encouraged.
Zurich, Switzerland
While in Zurich, be sure to visit the Old Town (Altstadt) for its charming cobblestone streets and historic buildings. Take a boat cruise on Lake Zurich and enjoy the stunning views of the city. For accommodations, consider staying at a family-friendly hotel like the Baur au Lac or the Widder Hotel.
Black Forest, Germany
Driving through the Black Forest, make a stop at the Triberg Waterfalls and hike through the beautiful forest trails. Stay at a traditional guesthouse (Gasthaus) for an authentic experience. Don't miss trying the famous Black Forest cake!
Amsterdam, Netherlands
In Amsterdam, visit the Anne Frank House and the Van Gogh Museum for a dose of culture. Take a canal cruise and explore the city by bike. Stay at a family-friendly hotel like the Pulitzer Amsterdam or the Conservatorium Hotel.
Belgium and Eastern France
While in Belgium, visit the historic city of Bruges for its medieval architecture and delicious waffles. In Eastern France, explore the Alsace region for its charming villages and vineyards. Don't forget to try the local cuisine like moules frites and tarte flambée.
Enjoy your family road trip and have a wonderful time exploring these beautiful destinations!
