No resort. Stay in a local hotel (so many good ones) and enjoy all the great things PVR has to offer. So many great restaurants, street vendors, etc

Norma I’m heading there in June with my family. I’d love recommendations for where to stay (not a resort) and things to do

Not fancy, but clean and only a few blocks walk to the beach and Malecon.
So many many good restaurants around. Small pools, but good enough for a cool off swim.

Norma Awesome. Thank you for the recommendations.

Barceló Maya Grand Resort is a great family resort with a ton of things to do for all ages

Toblini also if your budget allows, consider doing an excursion called Rhythms of the Night. Was very good experience for the money.

Toblini I used to like a place called Posada lily. It was right on old town off the Malacon. Cheap and clean and cute. I would also check out air b n B's as then you get a kitchen.

Skip the resorts, find a small boutique hotel in Old Town. Resort stays give you no flavour of life in Mexico.

Just returned from a 2 week stay - 1st week at Golden Club Paradise (closer to downtown PV); 2nd week at RIU Jalisco (great resort but closer to Bucerius). Both different, both good… depends on your personal interests.

Puerto Vallarta has grown to be a huge crazy city with lots of traffic , I would recommend Nuevo Vallarta especially if you are taking your children. I’m in Puerto Vallarta right now staying at the Hilton Rivera, lovely resort but very remotely located, you have to take a taxi every time you want to go anywhere.

Go to Huatalco and stay at an AirBnB.

Bruce yes please, I want to snorkle everyday. Do you have info.

Profile picture of Bruce

Debbie We recently stayed in Huatulco at a resort, and left with the thought we have to come back and stay at an airbnb. Safe, people were friendly, fruit, vegetable, seafood and meat shopping looked incredible and so cheap. Resorts do offer for a fee beach access with towels. Weird thing? Only pesos are welcome. Leave your American money at home (never mind Canadian).
