I quite liked the Tokyu Stay chain. There's locations throughout Tokyo and some have rooms with a washer and dryer. Sometimes prices are cheaper directly through their website than on sites like Booking, tripadvisor, etc. Also, I never felt unsafe anywhere in Tokyo and I was a solo female traveler...

Get a Tokyu Hotel loyalty card https://www.tokyuhotelsjapan.com/en/index.html book with them.. decent prices that include a good bfast. They are not fancy hotels but are clean and close to most train stations.

Best Western Shinjuku was a good deal. I think $150 a night. Tight spaces (to be expected). But clean, modern and GREAT location. 5min from the Station. (Looks like the BW is now Citadines Central Shinjuku.) Still same price.

Pretty much all of Japan is safe, you would really really have to go looking for trouble for anything to happen.

Citidanes shinjuku was awesome. Very good prices. Excellent reviews. with "western" sizes rooms. On a quieter street about 5 minutes walk from the heart of shinjuku

We stayed at Tokyu Stay Gotanda, steps away from the Gotanda Station on the Yamanote line. The room is small which is typical of Tokyo hotels but very clean and comfortable. We'll stay here again.

Thank you so much! You have given me great suggestions. I agree Tokyo is very safe but thought I should add that bit about being safe.

Can anyone recommend a decent reasonably priced hotel in Tokyo, maybe Shinjuku or...?(two adults, standard rooms fine, need a safe area). We have stayed in AirBnBs in Tokyo but want to stay in a hotel March/April 2018. I know hotels are expensive there and if we have to pay $400 a night we will but just hoping someone might have some suggestions. Thank you.
