Melissa

My local friends in Mo Bay said they don't even venture into Kingston if not absolutely necessary. Negril is nice though. And he's 6'2, born bred in Jamaica!
Carly
I'm going to a dance studio for 3 days. It was the whole reason for the trip. I'll be safe!
Wendy
Be very careful! Don't venture into gang turfs.
Aseniya
Rose Hall Great house and the Barney's Hummingbird garden
Shelley
Watch where you grab cash from even at atm's. Scams going on. Stay with your friend, but otherwise Negril all the way
Enjoy!

If you plan on going to Negril, Country Country is a charming hotel on 7 Mile Beach that's reasonably priced. For a higher budget, Rockhouse is a dream.
Linda
Country Country is fantastic!
Carly
Thanks!

I am quite well traveled and very travel savvy as well I get along in most cultures however I would never go off the Beaten Track in Jamaica again it can be very dangerous we were on the Beaten Track and were attacked for pulling out our camera... I'm talking surrounded by men and women with baseball bats yelling go back to Florida... I was followed into many bathrooms and refuse toilet paper unless I paid and was generally very unhappy with my time there. ... Not only would I never go back I think it's insane to go off the Beaten Track
Linda
I think by "off the beaten path" they mean non-AI, a cool find, a different experience than most people have in Jamaica. That is how I found Negril to be. Not that it is very adventurous (we love adventure and have had some great times in SE Asia, Africa, Central America). But for Jamaica, I found staying in a cabin on the beach and not going AI to be "off the beaten path" for most people.
Carly
I'm incredibly familiar with the culture and have been training in Jamaican dance (dancehall) for over 2 years. I know there are risks with going to Kingston, but I am going to a dance studio there with many locals who can guide and help me. I'm not going in blind. Thanks for the info though.
T
Good luck
Gillian
Carly Catrina you're both looking to train dancehall in Kingston in October!
Nkem
I don't have any tips but please post when you return so we know you got home safe! Have a great time.
Tsion
I am sure you will enjoy your trip. It's absolutely safe and you will have tons of fun. I am not sure why there is such a negative feeling towards Kingston. Go to Hellshire Beach and get some fish and festival. They also have nice beach parties up there.
Carly
Thank you!!
Latoya

Little Dunns River and Blue hole in Ocho Rios if you get to that parrish! Also, Google the "luminating sea in Jamaica" or if nothing comes up, look up "the glowing waters in Jamaica" to find the location it's a little bit out of Mobay. You'd have to go at night but the water glows!
T
I had a wonderful time at Dunn's River Falls however a nine year old boy and my daughter's class died there I can't talk about the details as my heart is still so Raw if you're bringing children please please watch them carefully
Michelle

Carly

David
I highly recommend going off the beaten path. You'll see and experience amazing things. The only exception being certain areas of Kingston where you do have to be careful. Find a local guide who can take you around the city, show you the sites and keep you safe. Since you'll be in Kingston I recommend hiking Blue Mountain and spend a couple days in Portland if you can. check out long bay, reach falls, Boston Bay, blue lagoon and port Antonio. to get the local exerience reach out to Rosanna at Search Me Heart in Drapers. Eat at Ann's little place next door - homecooked, fresh, cheap Jamaican cooking. drink rum at the local rum shack across the road and listen to the rhythms of reggae blasting from soundsystems that saturate the air by the sea at night. take shared route taxis everywhere like the locals, and get to know the people. you don't need much else. don't waste your time with Negril or even Mobay. Treasure Beach is awesome too but far from moBay but the place has a great laid back vibe. lots of little inns and guesthouses to stay in. have fun!
Mike
Check out Ricks Cafe. Be there a few hours before sundown. The cliff jump is a must!! Then enjoy the beautiful sunset while you have some chicken and waffles!
