First of all...yay for you guys! We were supposed to go to Sandos Eco resort near Cancun before Covid hit! It’s super family friendly and they have their own cenotes on their resort which are like tropical water lagoons to swim in
Clare
When staying there You can also use their sister resort sandos playacar for free. The beach there is huge and it's a great day trip.

Sandos Eco Resort or Barcelo Maya, both in the Mayan Riviera south of Cancun. Sandos has great waterslides, beach not as nice, and a smaller pool. Barcelo has a beautiful beach, massive pools and kids Waterpark. They have very different vibes.

Grand Sirenis near Playa del Carmen

Sheryl For sure! I wrote a trip advisor review a few years back on this resort. It was titled, If you aren't happy here, you won't be happy anywhere!!
Sheryl
Rhonda so true!!! We went as a family. There were 16 people (aged 6 - 70ish) Everyone thoroughly had a marvelous time. With everyone finding so much to do everyday. We even went back as a couple a few years later

Stay on the Caribean side of Mexico Cancun, Ixtapa, Riviera Maya, Huatulco. Ixtapa is amazing

Karmina palace manzanillo - I am a diver but after dives spent the afternoons snorkelling in their man made bay - fairly shallow but deep enough where it opens to open water- good for kids and calm - turtle octopus and eagle rays spotted both in the bay and right at the “ bridge” google to see photos. Can be lots of fish to see - and great locale to learn to dive
Cheryl
Lesley it has such a great beach for kids. The rest of Manzanillo is rough beach. I stayed there last year.

Seeking Calm, Blue Waters in Mexico? Look no further!
Hey there, fellow travel enthusiasts!
Just like you, I love a good family vacation to Mexico. Puerto Vallarta is beautiful, but I can totally relate to the rough water situation – not ideal for little ones paddling around. Luckily, Mexico has a plethora of amazing destinations with tranquil waters perfect for families. Here are a few all-inclusive resorts I recommend that boast calm, blue waters, often in protected bays or lagoons:
Top Picks for Calm Waters & Family Fun:
-
Hotel Xcaret Mexico (Riviera Maya)
This resort is a fantastic option for families. While it's not directly on a beach with calm ocean waters, it offers access to several incredible "inlets" and natural coves perfect for swimming. Plus, your stay includes access to the Xcaret parks, which feature calm rivers, lagoons, and children's areas. The resort itself also boasts multiple pools suitable for all ages.
-
Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa
Located south of Cancun, this resort sits on a protected stretch of beach with generally calmer waters than you'll find in areas like Puerto Vallarta. It's known for its beautiful white sand and shallow entry perfect for kids. They also offer various water sports activities suitable for families in their calmer water areas.
-
Grand Velas Riviera Maya (Playa del Carmen)
If you're looking for luxury, this resort is it. Parts of the beach here are sheltered by natural rock formations, creating calmer swimming areas. The resort also has fantastic pools designed with families in mind.
-
Moon Palace Cancun
This expansive resort boasts several pools and a beautiful beach, portions of which are protected, leading to calmer waves. The "Sunrise" section is particularly good for families with young children due to its dedicated kids' pool and play areas.
Tips for Finding Your Perfect Resort:
Beyond these specific resorts, here are a few tips to help you find your perfect calm-water getaway:
- Look for resorts located in bays or lagoons: Natural formations provide a barrier against strong waves and currents.
- Check reviews and photos: See what other families say about the water conditions. Photos can also give you a good visual of the beach and wave activity.
- Consider the time of year: Water conditions can vary depending on the season. Research the typical weather patterns for your travel dates.
I hope this helps! Happy travels and enjoy those beautiful calm waters with your family!

Hello fellow travel friends! I am looking for recommendations for a family friendly, all-inclusive resort in Mexico. I have been to Puerto Vallarta and enjoyed it, but found the water was too rough, and unfriendly for the kids to paddle around in. I'm looking for a great resort on calmer, bluer water (perhaps a lagoon!). Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
