Where can you find the most breathtaking views in Canada for a short trip?

September
Question:
Humans say...
Arlene
Def Tofino and Ucluelet
Jan
Arlene do you fly into Victoria?
Robbin
Jan yes or Nanaimo, but flights are less frequent.
Sania
Arlene I second Tofino and Ucluelet. My two favourites. We were just there last week.
Laurie
Banff. Jasper. Lake Louise
Brenda
Born and raised in Calgary and now living in Red Deer, and I travelled enough to know my favorite place to go is Banff/ Canmore/Kanaskasis - so much to see and do and not having to travel too far to do it !
J'Anne
Old Quebec City is one of our most favourite places to visit
so picturesque and full of amazing food.
Cyndi
Haida Gwaii
Dawn
Ocean destination, Tofino. Mountain destination, Banff.
City destination, Vancouver or Montreal.
Julie
How about Yellowknife?!
Harmke
I live in bragg creek foothills of the rockies. Banff, Canmore, kananaskis absolutely beautiful. The only thing when you come early October is that we might have a ton of snow already. So be prepared for that.
But maybe no snow as well, you just never know.
Having said that, we also absolutely love vancouver island. There are beaches, ocean, mountains, it is all there. And milder weather ofcourse.
Terry
I have lived in Calgary for 21 years and have been to all 10 provinces in Canada. Unless you are an ocean person, the best place in Canada to spend 4 days are the Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper area, for sights
Terry
And for food, Montreal and Quebec in general
Cathy
Terry great! Any tips or tricks for travelling there?
Tracey
Cape Breton is wonderful in October!
Darrick
I second this. I just got back from Nova Scotia and drove the Cabot Trail during the drive I was thinking how amazing it would be with the fall colours. I’d recommend doing it over two or three days and catch sunset at the Skyline Trail.
Tracey
From one of my October trips
Karen
If you haven't been out east, I highly recommend the Maritime provinces in the fall. It's so beautiful there.
Cyndi
Karen the Cabot trail is spectacular
Nikki
Karen I LOVE Nova Scotia, PEI, & New Brunswick! So easy to whip around. My hope is to visit Newfoundland soon!!
Robbin
Nikki ditto
Cheryl
Karen I am literally looking at flights for NS right now!
Scott
Toffino there is nothing else like it amazing.
Wendy
Nova Scotia
Susanne
Come visit the beautiful Québec fall colours. It’s majestic and mesmerizing to see during early to mid October.
Cathy
Susanne do you have any tips for us
Susanne
Cathy the Eastern townships is the most visited places during Autumn. Check out airbnb or chalet. We been to Île aux gros . So peaceful to stay In that lil. Island. Need to take Helicopter ride or ferry.your choice. Good luck
Marie
if you don’t speak French avoid Quebec.
Yannick
Marie Meh, it's like saying if you dont speak Japanese avoid Japan etc etc.
Montreal is mostly bilingual with TONS of english as first language, Eastern townships has a lof of English speakers and most know enough english to help you out. Same applie sto most of Quebec, English is a mandatory course in the entire province starting in grade 13.
Leave with a good attitude, try some basic French, and it will be reciprocated. Same applie sto anywhere else you'd go.
Marie
Yannick yes, been there and done that. Quebec is very anti English. Even if you make an effort they will refuse to help you. My boyfriend at the time was bilingual but I will never go back. It is so disrespectful to treat someone putting money into your economy like shit.
Marie
Cathy don’t go. There are states with the same colours that don’t discriminate if you don’t speak French
Robbin
Marie not true at all!
Yannick
Marie Well, I wonder why so many here recommend it then and had a wonderful experience? (check the many recommendations)
If your boyfriend was bilingual and spoke French, why weren't they helpful then? I wonder...
why would they treat the both of you like s@@t, as you put it, but not the others?
Montreal is one of the most international cities in Canada and I spoke English wherever I pleased with 0 issues, same with the anglophones I know living there.
I'm done, have a good day.
Melanie
Susanne I love Quebec. Everyone should visit at least once!
Mirical
Go see the northern lights in Yellowknife. (Except you need to quarantine so thats a month trip lol).
Carla
Mirical quarantine going up for how many days? 14? My Mom is from Yellowknife and wants to go see her family, her brother is failing and I would hate for her to not be able to see him again
Erika
Mirical hopefully that will change soon. We have awesome northern lights in Fort Smith.
And Carla your mom is fully vaccinated may be able to go and see her brother and skip the quarantine period. Call the government covid line. Or email them
Carla
Erika thank you!!!
Tricia
I have to echo the comments on Nova Scotia/ Cape Breton/ Cabot Trail in October.
Susan
Go east to see the fall colors
Kristy
Definitely go see the fall colors in Ontario or Quebec! Muskoka is incredible in the fall…. But I’ve heard Quebec is just as spectacular
Elaine
Vancouver Island.
Jason
I recently visited Quebec City for the first time and I enjoyed it especially the old city
Cathy
Jason please share some tips.
Jason
Cathy the old city is down town it’s surrounded by a wall as it’s the only city north of Mexico that is walled
Next to it is the park the plains of Abraham
The old city is designed like a French city with European style restaurants and shops
The Quebec provincial building is just outside of the gate and their is a beautiful fountain there that was a gift from France
In short it’s a mini piece of France
City is very clean and I didn’t see and homeless
Jason

Thanks everyone!!! I think we’re going to go with Tofino! Any specific recommendations of where to stay or what to see in Tofino early October?
Paula
Julie Longbeach Lodge, Wickaninnish Inn, Cox Bay Reort, Pacific Sands Resort
Paula
We just came back and stayed at Longbeach Lodge, but any of the others would be spectacular too!
Julie
Paula it looks like there are only the standard rooms available at Longbeach. Are they still okay do you know?
Paula
Julie mmmm…
-not sure what a standard room is. We ended taking a very last minute same day cancellation which was a ground level room right on the beach. Rooms were clean and well kept but a little dated with the dark colours of the early 2000’s. They even had a couple of fire pits beachside with chairs and a great ocean view for all guest to enjoy! Boy was it nice! Maybe give them a call and see what they say? In any case I’m sure other than a beach view all rooms would be comparable
Paula
Julie
Sue
Julie make sure you try Tacofina for the best fish tacos and in Ucuelet they have the best fish and chip place on the corner. Looks like a food truck .
Jody
Julie we just got home today from Ucluelet and stayed at the Terrace Beach resort and it was amazing. Some great hikes right out your door & a hot tub to come back to in the evenings. Zoe’s cafe has the best breakfasts I’ve ever had! We drove up to long beach and tofino which were also great, but preferred Uclulete!

Virginia Falls is a waterfall in Nahanni National Park Reserve, Northwest Territories, Canada. It is located on the South Nahanni River, at an elevation of 500 m. It is located 120 km from the Yukon border. It has a total drop of 96 m, 315 ft, making it about twice the height of Niagara Falls. A large falls, not just the height. The gorge with rock walls straight up, 300 ft.plus. Wikipedia, There are several guide outfitters doing this. It’s an adventure of a lifetime. Easy flights to get there. Edmonton to Fort Nelson, Vancouver to Fort Nelson. Depending which outfitter you use. I had the privilege of working with the Fort Liard Yukon reservation people and seeing it. Better then Niagara Falls, hands down.
Deb
It’s on my bucket list -exploring Nahanni- and Rabbitkettle too. But SO expensive to get there with a guide.
Sieg
I would miss one other vacation trip, to go on this one. It’s not a canoe trip to take on your own.
Deb
I keep hoping to befriend a bush pilot
Sieg
Deborah Schoger yes I flew over the area several times. A bush plane can’t land with in miles of the falls.
Deb
Understandably! I just want to get into the park. And I’m less a whitewater enthusiast and more a hiker. I enjoy some bumpy water sometimes though! To have a week to traipse around the peaks and valleys of that remote place is a dream hoping to become reality!
Naumy
Jasper and surrounding areas
Jenny
For me its muskoka county Ont, or Vancouver island.
Wayne
Banff, Columbia Ice Fields, Jasper Skywalk and Jasper
Janice
Quebec -3 days in Charlevoix region and 1 day in Quebec City: Baie St. Paul (Grand Jardins National Park), La Malbaie (Hautes Gorges de la Rivere Malbaie National Park), Flavour Trail and ending with a day in Quebec City.
Cathy
Janice What tourist tips do you have for those places? Thanks!
Janice
Cathy I’d rent a car for the national park stuff. There’s lots of info online about hikes Yiu can do too! The towns themselves were pretty small (like Canmore or Banff maybe), so we mostly just stayed there for accommodations and tasty food. If you’re a foodie, you can search charlevoix flavour trail for lots of info there.
Quebec City had a very picturesque old town and there’s loads of things to do in Montreal depending on what you like
Cathy
Janice Thanks so much!!

Exploring the Enchanting Landscapes of Banff National Park, Canada
If you're seeking an awe-inspiring destination for a 4-day trip in early October, look no further than the breathtaking Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is undoubtedly one of the most amazing places I've visited in Canada, offering a mesmerizing blend of natural wonders and outdoor adventures.
Majestic Scenery and Vibrant Fall Colors
Early October is a fantastic time to visit Banff National Park as the landscape transforms into a vibrant palette of golden hues, creating a stunning contrast against the towering Rocky Mountains. The crisp autumn air and the absence of crowds make it an ideal season for hiking and exploring the park's numerous trails.
Iconic Sights and Activities
- Lake Louise: This iconic turquoise-hued lake surrounded by towering peaks and the Victoria Glacier is a must-visit. Take a leisurely stroll along the shoreline or embark on a hike to the nearby Lake Agnes Tea House.
- Moraine Lake: Another breathtaking lake with a mesmerizing blue-green color, framed by the rugged Valley of the Ten Peaks. The iconic Rockpile Trail offers panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
- Sulphur Mountain: Ride the Banff Gondola to the summit of Sulphur Mountain for sweeping vistas of the town of Banff and the awe-inspiring Canadian Rockies.
- Hiking Trails: Explore the park's extensive network of hiking trails, ranging from easy walks to challenging treks, such as the Ink Pots Trail, Fairview Lookout, and the iconic Stawamus Chief.
Accommodations and Dining
Banff National Park offers a variety of accommodation options, from cozy cabins to luxurious resorts. For a truly memorable experience, consider staying in the iconic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise or the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. The town of Banff also boasts numerous dining options, from casual eateries to fine dining establishments, where you can savor delectable Canadian cuisine and local specialties.
With its stunning natural beauty, diverse outdoor activities, and excellent accommodations, Banff National Park is an ideal destination for a 4-day getaway in early October.
