We will be in New York City in September. Can anyone recommend a nice Hotel near( but not in ) Times Square? Thank-you!

I went by myself to see David Letterman, and the ticket person recommended this hotel and it was just perfect. Not expensive, it was winter, and right between Central Park and Times Square. Walked everywhere and completely safe. Lindy's for cheesecake just down the block... I will go back one day

The Milford is near Times Square but not too close. Maybe a 5-10 minute walk.We stayed there several years ago. Good location, great decor, friendly, helpful staff. I hope it is still that great

My sister and I stayed at the Salisbury on West 57th, 2 blocks from Central Park. It was a great spot for us as we didn't mind walking. We also took the subway and the Hop on Hop off bus. Also, check out Snap Travel for hotel deals. It worked well for us because we booked with free cancellation two or three times before ending up with the best deal.

Kimpton Ink 48 Hotel. Great rooms, excellent restaurant in the hotel and an absolutely stellar roof top bar. About a 10 min walk to Times Square.

Stewart Hotel, in front of Madison Square Garden. Convenient to everything.

I stayed at a place called Hayden Hotel, in Midtown. Great location, reasonably priced, clean and stylish.

SAN Carlos. Walking distance to Times Square, Empire State Building, the park

The Eventi. Great hotel, cocktail hour every night on their rooftop.

We stayed at the Distrik Hotel, it was nice and we loved the location. Easy walking to Times Square and across the road from the Port Authority station. I read before hand it was a gritty area, but I had no concerns at all.
