Any recommendations for a place to go (direct from Edmonton) in March with my 16 year old daughter??. Prefer not to do the all inclusive route, also would not be renting a car.

San Francisco. Transit friendly and cable cars are the best. Culture Shopping and Dining are great too.

My mom and I did the San Fran trip. So fun. NYC is also another great mom/ daughter destination we did. Broadway. Central park. Museums. Touring the city is cool in itself.

Huatulco! Hot and beautiful. You can get direct flights from Edmonton and rent a condo or stay in a hotel for a very reasonable cost. And we take cabs all over the place for a very reasonable price. They are governed fares so they are not jacked up like in the other tourist areas!

We stayed at Las Brisas in Tangolunda Bay last March, excellent swimming and snorkelling onsite. Lots of stairs, but have shuttles. Wonderful place, weather always beautiful.

You said you didn't want all inclusive, so I would recommend the Binniguenda, Villablanca, or the Castillo

I agree with the Puerto Vallarta suggestion. I'm thinking of going there myself, and it's because of the direct flight from Edmonton.

Fly to Puerto Vallarta then take an uber/bus/cab to Sayulita ...lots of houses to rent, beautiful town, lots of restaurants all walking distance

Agreed! And Bucerias & Punta Mita
I personally would stay in Bucerias (it's about a 25 mins bus ride from PV) has a bunch of markets, nice pubs & restaurants on the beach and then just take the bus to Sayulita a couple times to enjoy the beach.

NYC, Chicago. Shoulder season so usually cheaper and not as busy, but so much to do and eat!

Cancun has a lot of options for airbnb with nice views and on the beach

Yes. I took my daughter to the Emporio hotel in May and got a gorgeous large ocean front suite. It’s all inclusive but few amenities so the price is lower and the pizzaz level is too. One buffet, one restaurant. A separate kids pool. We walked and bussed wherever we wanted easily. Sunrise on one side and sunset on the other.

The main beach in Sayulita is very long and a bit crowded at the end where the waves are smaller. The waves are huge the further north you go up the beach, but not crowded. Playa los Muertos is a lovely little pocket beach that is about a 20 minute walk from the centre of town and the waves are very manageable. Sayulita is lovely!

Spring Break Getaway: Exploring Fun Destinations from Edmonton with Your Teenager

As the winter chill starts to fade and the promise of spring lingers in the air, planning a memorable getaway with your 16-year-old daughter can be an exciting adventure. While all-inclusive resorts might seem like an easy option, there's something special about venturing off the beaten path and creating unique experiences together. With Edmonton as your starting point, here are some fantastic destination ideas that will make your spring break truly unforgettable.

Vancouver, British Columbia

Just a short flight or scenic train ride away, Vancouver offers a perfect blend of urban excitement and natural beauty. Explore the vibrant neighborhoods, indulge in the diverse culinary scene, and immerse yourselves in the city's cultural attractions. Don't miss the iconic Stanley Park, where you can stroll along the seawall, admire towering totem poles, and visit the Vancouver Aquarium. For a breathtaking view, take the Skyride to the top of Grouse Mountain, or venture to the nearby Capilano Suspension Bridge Park for a thrilling walk among the treetops.

Seattle, Washington

Just across the border, Seattle is a gem waiting to be discovered. Start your adventure at the iconic Pike Place Market, where you can explore the bustling stalls, sample local delicacies, and witness the famous fish-throwing spectacle. Visit the Space Needle for panoramic city views, and explore the fascinating exhibits at the Museum of Pop Culture or the Pacific Science Center. For a unique experience, take a ferry ride to one of the nearby islands, like Bainbridge or Vashon, and enjoy a day of hiking, beachcombing, and soaking in the stunning natural scenery.

Banff National Park, Alberta

If you're seeking a dose of natural wonder without venturing too far from Edmonton, Banff National Park is a must-visit destination. Immerse yourselves in the breathtaking Rocky Mountain scenery, with towering peaks, pristine lakes, and an abundance of outdoor activities. Explore the charming town of Banff, visit the iconic Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, and take a scenic drive along the Icefields Parkway. For adventurous souls, consider hiking one of the park's renowned trails or trying your hand at winter sports like skiing or snowshoeing (depending on the weather conditions).

No matter which destination you choose, the key is to embrace the spirit of exploration and create lasting memories with your daughter. Opt for accommodations that offer a unique local experience, like cozy bed and breakfasts or vacation rentals, and be open to spontaneous adventures along the way. Spring break is the perfect time to step outside your comfort zone and forge an even stronger bond with your teenage companion.
