We are going to New York in March. Any recommendations on specific things to do and/or avoid. Also been looking at the New York passes at Costco.

We loved our NYpass- but we are museum people. If you like any kind of museum (the Met is just fantastic!) I would consider it.

Definitely get the city pass. Plus you can go for a day tour of Brooklyn pizzerias, in a group.
We did MOMA (museum), Broadway play, helicopter ride over Manhattan, SNL tour, riding the wooden escalator at Macy’s flagship store.
Hotdogs at Gray’s Papaya, chicken, waffles and collard greens at Amy Ruth’s in Harlem. (We did these and more in more than one trip). Pick what suits you.

Nbc studio tour was fun and they were giving away tickets for shows taping - check out the website and you can watch for booked tickets rather than the standby we did. Kanye West was rehearsing at the SNL set so couldn’t go in but was so cool!
Museums such as the met and natural history museum and Statue of Liberty/Elis island are min 3-5 hours/full day events so plan accordingly. Central Park is beautiful and could spend a day just doing that.
And of course a Broadway show

TKTS for half-price day-of Broadway tickets. Enjoy Central Park - especially on a weekend, there's lots to see and do there. The Highline Park is fairly new and supposed to be a great place to walk. John's Pizzeria (either Bleecker or in Times Square) has some of the best pizza in the city - it's only sold by the pie and is made to order. The one on Bleecker is the original and has an amazing vibe but also is really small. Chinatown and Little Italy for lots of great food. Get an unlimited metro card and use the subway for your transit - it's quite easy to get around on the subway, and relatively safe. (Easy way to remember it - the 1/2/3 run N/S along the west side and the 4/5/6 run N/S along the east side, with the S/of 7 trains connecting between the two at 42nd St and various other trains going at all sorts of angles.) Columbia University at 116th and Broadway is absolutely stunning - it has a gorgeous urban campus. If kids are involved, the American Museum of Natural History is great. Have a great time - March is a great time of year to visit NYC. (We've been going in August the past few years...NOT a great time to visit New York, lol.)
