Last March we rented a condo at Kapalua Villas on Maui, and it was amazing, and fairly reasonable.

I have stayed at this resort before too and it is very nice. It is a little dated but when we were there for Easter, they did an Easter egg hunt and had some mini golf tournaments all for free. The pools are small but they are not crowded. It is walking distance to a grocery store so you can cook your own food. Parking is free too!

http://papakea.com Have been to Maui six times and have always stayed at Papakea! Beautiful grounds and is close enough to Lahaina/Kaanapali to go anytime, but far enough that there aren't as many people. You can get a unit through the resort directly or from condo owners who advertise through vrbo!

Def going to look into this one! Ty!

Thank you for this info! Do you think the end of Feb is too early to go. We want to go so bad but don't want to sacrifice the weather. I checked on line and it's a little scattered. We went to Ohau in late April and it was gorgeous!

Weather in Maui is consistent year round. Not much variation. February is definitely high season, and you will probably be limited in condo choices booking now.

very good to know!! Thank you, we looked a couple months ago and prices weren't bad, we've noticed that they have now shot up!!

Don't go during spring break. We did that and it was a little crazy

Profile picture of Selena

Selena

Oh right! Do you what they consider spring break, through our research it looks like half way through Feb to half way through March!

Looks like the busiest will be March 11 - 25 http://www.springbreak.com/Spring_Break_Dates.html

No problem. We did one week in Maui and one week in kauai in 2014 and loved it. So easy to travel around and the weather is perfect all the time.

Profile picture of Selena

Selena

ok now you're talking!!!! I've been looking at Kauai as well, they both seem so different! And yet so beautiful in their own way, we love to explore but we also love to just relax. Do you just take a quick flight over?

Profile picture of Ev

Ev

Yep we took a flight and it was worth it. Kauai was a lot quieter and I thought the scenery was amongst the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Especially napali coast, Hanalei bay and Waimea canyon. Kauai gets more rain but since it stays consistently warm it's not really an issue

bless your heart
. I've proposed the idea to my hubby and he loves it! I wouldn't have thought of it! I've heard it is so amazing! Thank you for naming the different areas as well!! We appreciate it so much!

vrbo rates drop after April 15th, it's considered low season. You can save a lot of $$'s !! we have stayed at Kihea Garden Estates several times and always been impressed. Enjoy your trip!

Profile picture of Selena

Oh that is such great info!!! Thank you so much!!! And thanks for the recommendation, I will take a look

If you go before the end of March i t's whale season and the humpbacks are there with their babies. I prefer going in low season even though it's nicer weather here.

Selena

Oh right....the whales!!!!! Thank you!

My favorite place to book on vrbo is through Kamaole Sands in Kihei, but if you can afford it, the best snorkel beaches tend to be in Wailea.

Profile picture of Selena

Selena

We love snorkelling!!! It's def on our must do list!!! Thank you!

Profile picture of Jaye

Jaye

Selena if you go into Polo beach or Wailea beach, it's shore access to where the big boats take their tourists for the second site. It's great taking a couple minute swim out to where people pay the boat tours.

Profile picture of Selena

Selena

oh that is so neat!!!!! We would love that!!!! Thank you so much again!!!

Make sure to go before Japan's spring break. It's about a month that the price almost doubles on all Hawaiian islands.

Profile picture of Selena

Selena

Oh my really!!!! I'll have to look that one up!!! Thank you for the heads up!

Kihei is the "sunniest" part of the island. And known as "little Canada". lots of great beaches within walking distance. vrbo or airbnb are your best bets for accommodation. We've stayed at Kamaole Sands, Maui Kamaole and Hale Kamaole. Maui Kamaole is probably the oldest of the three and may be the cheaper. Go to Hookipa beach mid to late afternoon to see turtles (but please keep your distance). Flatbread company in Pa'ia has the BEST pizza on Maui. Definitely do the trip up to Haleakala to see the sunrise - AMAZING!! We do a trip over to Lanai with Paragon Sail Maui tours -its a snorkel trip with time on the gorgeous beach of Lanai. Take a trip Up Country - it's off the beaten path and lots of fun things to see and do.Have a great trip! I'll be surprised if you don't fall in love with the island

To rent a car try All save car rentals they are awesome they can drop the car off at airport no line up and when you leave just leave car in airport parking lot. Quick and easy

Profile picture of Melissa

do you reserve on-line with them? I just tried to see their rates and they didn't have any rentals available for a few dates I tried.

Unless you want to stick fairly close to your hotel/condo, or do tours, definitely rent a car! So many cool places to check out that get you away from the urban areas. Food is pretty pricey at the hotels and at restaurants near them, so either venture out a bit or cook most of your own food. We saved a lot by cooking most of our meals. Wailea/Makena area seemed to be a bit quieter with an older crowd, but definitely pricier to stay in that area. The beaches were incredible though, and the weather is drier in the west/southwest. I was actually surprised by how arid the landscape was.

Profile picture of Selena

Selena

Oh thank you so much, beaches beaches beaches, so important to us! Thank you!!!

Profile picture of Jen

Selena there are amazing beaches all over the island. We stayed right on Ulua Beach and there were turtles in the shallows every day. Never made it to Makena State Park, but I heard that is an outstanding beach as well.

Profile picture of Selena

Selena

we saw turtles in Oahu, what beautiful creatures! Some of the best beaches ever, we can't wait! Oh yes I read a little about Ulua, looks beautiful! Thank you!

I just back from Maui last night!
. I've been several times and it has never been as busy as it was over the holidays. Spring break is spread out, it is busier but not crazy.
vrbo has great spots to rent and KIMO island rentals has really affordable used car rentals.
As of Feb you will need to reserve a spot on Haleakala if you want to watch the sunrise.
I love the little look out right before the very top, it's way less busy.

Oh wow!!! Thank you! Great tip! Glad u enjoyed your vacay!

Traveling to Maui in the Next 2-3 Months?

Hello fellow travelers! If you're planning a trip to Maui in the next 2-3 months, you're in for a treat. Here are some tips and advice to make your trip memorable:

Best Time to Visit Maui

Maui is a popular destination year-round, but the best time to visit is typically during the shoulder seasons of spring (April-May) and fall (September-November). The weather is pleasant, and there are fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months.

VRBO Suggestions

When it comes to accommodations in Maui, VRBO (Vacation Rentals By Owner) can be a great option for finding a cozy place to stay. Look for properties near popular areas like Lahaina, Kaanapali, or Wailea for easy access to beaches and attractions.

Renting a Car

Renting a car is highly recommended in Maui as public transportation is limited, and having your own vehicle gives you the flexibility to explore the island at your own pace. Make sure to book your car rental in advance to secure the best rates and availability.

Thank You in Advance

Thank you in advance for any advice or suggestions you may have for our upcoming trip to Maui. Feel free to share your favorite activities, restaurants, or hidden gems on the island. Happy travels!
