PV proper is not a place for surfing. Further north there is Sayulita which is a surf town and there are quite a few surf schools there.
Cabo has good surf but the beaches are further north from the town. (70 kms)...
Winter is the best season for surf.
I think Sayulita would be the best especially if you are staying in Riviera Nayarit. Palladium Vallarta All inclusive has a surf break right there.
Easy to take a bus to Sayulita from PV and north ( Nuevo, Bucerias, Punta de Mita)

Alan awesome - this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for that info!!
Maureen
Susan - we were at the Grand Palladium Vallarta recently & our daughter (12 yrs) took surf lessons right at the resort. The instructors were amazing! We have friends that stay at this resort but also surf elsewhere in the area. Feel free to pm me if you have more questions.

Maureen this is great, thanks so much! I have not narrowed down to a resort yet so will definitely be looking at this one!
Jana
High Tide Los Cabos , they are fantastic. Depending on what time of year you surf a different coast in Cabo. They will take you to the best spots. Daughter loved them. They were fantastic.
Susan
Jana great thanks! We will be there late March/early April.
Deanna
We used this company in Sayulita and the guy was amazing. Super patient and friendly.

Yes, hard to get there.. but Puerto Escondido is the best for surfing lessons, it was the highlight of our last trip .
Anita
Check out La Lancha and Punta Mita, both north of Puerto Vallarta, not as far as Sayulita, less busy, and more suitable for beginners. Although Sayulita is a great surf town to check out as well.
Chris
Cerritos Beach just north of Cabo on the Pacific side.
Suly
Chris second with that!
Erin
Nosara Costa Rica and south down that entire coast … great surfing.
Vicki
Surf Diva, La Jolla, CA (close to San Diego); Sayulita, Mexico
Michelle
Sayulita - surf culture going strong!
Nate

Best Surfing Location on the Pacific Side
If you and your daughters are looking to take surfing lessons on your next family trip, you'll be happy to know that both Cabo and Puerta Vallarta/Riviera Nyarit are great options on the Pacific side. However, each location offers a different surfing experience.
Cabo San Lucas
Cabo San Lucas in Mexico is known for its beautiful beaches and consistent waves, making it a popular destination for surfers of all levels. There are several surf schools and tour companies in Cabo that offer lessons for beginners as well as more advanced surfers. Some recommended surf schools in Cabo include Mike's Surf School and Cerritos Surf School.
Puerta Vallarta/Riviera Nyarit
Puerta Vallarta and Riviera Nyarit also offer great surfing opportunities, with a variety of surf breaks suitable for different skill levels. The waves in this area are known for being more mellow and beginner-friendly compared to Cabo. Some recommended surf schools in Puerta Vallarta/Riviera Nyarit include Surfinders and Vallarta Surf.
Ultimately, the best location for surfing will depend on your daughters' skill levels and preferences. If they are beginners, Puerta Vallarta/Riviera Nyarit might be a better choice due to the more gentle waves. However, if they are looking for a more challenging surf experience, Cabo San Lucas could be the perfect destination.
Whichever location you choose, taking surfing lessons with a reputable surf school or tour company is highly recommended to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for your daughters. Have a great family trip and happy surfing!

My young adult daughters (20 and 17) desperately want to take a few surfing lessons on our next family trip. We missed out when we were in Hawaii. Anyone know which would be a better location for surfing on the pacific side - Cabo or Puerta Vallarta/Riviera Nyarit? Even better if someone can recommend a tour or company that offers surfing lessons! TIA
