There are lots of cheap, direct round-trip flights from Vancouver to Hong Kong. Then you can do a short haul airline like HK Express from hong Kong to chiang Mai. This might be cheaper than if you try to book all the way to Thailand and back, on 1 airline

cathay pacific, Korean Air, and some of the mainland Chinese airlines have routes that only involve 1 stop from Vancouver to Chiang Mai. Personally, I try to avoid traveling through mainland China due to unfavourable past experiences. As for a cathay pacific and Korean Air, I've enjoyed flying both airlines. As for flying times, the flight to HK is a bit longer than to Seoul (13 hours vs. 11 hours), but then your connecting flight will be shorter (3 hours vs. 5 hours).

agree, avoid flying through Mainland China and avoid the China airlines.

Best Airline and Route to Chiang Mai, Thailand

Traveling with small kids can be a challenge, but with the right airline and route, your journey to Chiang Mai, Thailand can be smooth and enjoyable. Here are some recommendations:

Best Airline:

Many travelers recommend Thai Airways for its excellent service and child-friendly amenities. The airline offers special meals for children, entertainment options, and comfortable seating arrangements for families.

Best Route:

The shortest route to Chiang Mai, Thailand from most international destinations is typically through Bangkok. You can fly into Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok and then take a connecting flight to Chiang Mai. This route is convenient and offers plenty of options for connecting flights.

Alternatively, you can also consider flying into Chiang Mai directly from major cities in Asia such as Singapore, Hong Kong, or Kuala Lumpur. These routes may be slightly longer but can be more convenient if you prefer to avoid a layover in Bangkok.

Tips for Traveling with Kids:

  • Book flights during off-peak hours to avoid crowded airports.
  • Pack plenty of snacks, toys, and entertainment for the kids.
  • Choose seats in advance to ensure your family sits together.
  • Check with the airline for any special services or amenities for families traveling with children.

Overall, choosing Thai Airways and flying through Bangkok or directly to Chiang Mai can be the best option for traveling with small kids to Thailand. Safe travels!
