We flew air china once. It was good. It's a Star Alliance if that matters to you. We also flew EVA and China Air. They were all about the same. It's a long flight, you will be cramped, bring something (Benadryl) to help you sleep on the flight. Unless, of course, you are lucky enough to travel first class. If you are going to Hong Kong, then cathay pacific is probably better.

We're booked on air canada from Edmonton to Vancouver to Beijing. The price was good and we didn't have to change planes in Japan, Hong Kong or Taiwan. I think china eastern flies from Vancouver to both Beijing and Shanghai. You could also check delta via Seattle. Gravol chased with a brandy will give you three or four hours of uninterruped sleep.

Travel Tips for China in Late August
Planning a trip to China in late August? Here are some useful tips and recommendations to help you make the most of your journey.
Weather and Clothing
Late August is typically warm and humid in most parts of China. Pack lightweight, breathable clothing, and remember to bring sun protection (hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen). However, it's always a good idea to carry a light jacket or sweater for cooler evenings or air-conditioned spaces.
Popular Destinations
Some of the most popular destinations in China during late August include Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, and Guilin. This time of year is excellent for exploring the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, and the Terracotta Warriors. However, be prepared for larger crowds at major tourist attractions.
Best Airline to Use
When it comes to choosing an airline for your trip to China, several reputable options are available. Consider flying with Air China, China Eastern Airlines, or China Southern Airlines, which are among the major Chinese carriers. These airlines offer direct flights from various international destinations to major cities in China.
If you're looking for a non-Chinese airline, options like Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, and Japan Airlines are also excellent choices, known for their service and on-time performance.
Other Tips
- Learn a few basic Mandarin phrases to help navigate your trip more easily.
- Carry cash (Chinese Yuan) as well as a credit/debit card, as some smaller establishments may not accept card payments.
- Be mindful of cultural norms and customs, such as dress codes for visiting temples or other sacred sites.
- Try local cuisine and street food (but exercise caution with food hygiene).
- Consider hiring a local guide or joining a tour group for a more immersive experience.
With these tips in mind, you'll be well-prepared for an unforgettable journey to China in late August. Safe travels!
