We stayed in Playa Bejuco last Xmas. It's just south of Jaco. I too will be moving there one day.

Manuel Antonio and Monteverde if you can.
Susie
I definitely recommend staying down town San Jose for at least two nights, loads of great things to check out in the city. Playa Jaco is nice as well, small surfing town on the coast. You can easily get around with uber, be weary of cabs as they tend to rip you off

Thanks everyone!

This blogpost from our website has a write up of different regions with some accommodation links. It was written by a mom about travelling with baby but still tons of great suggestions for non-parents

Tamarindo and playa conchal, playa flamingo on the west coast. San Jose stay downtown and go to the museo de Oro! Amazing pre-Columbian gold

We rented a nice condo just outside of playa portrero and playa flamingo. It was right on the beach with a lovely pool and walking distance to a number of restaurants and a couple of small grocers.
But quepos was very nice as well and close to Manuel Antonio park and beach.

I recommend balancing your trip with adventure but also to learn about the culture and the nature they have. Go on a bird walking tour. Go on a cultural tour of San Jose. These are becoming less popular activities that are important to Costa Ricans but are overshadowed by all the adrenaline tours. Go on a safari tour that takes you to a local farmer's house in Arenal (Canoa Aventura)
Have a memorable time!

Best Places to Visit in Costa Rica in September
Costa Rica, a tropical paradise known for its stunning natural beauty, is an excellent destination to visit in September. The country experiences its Green Season during this month, offering lush landscapes, fewer crowds, and often lower prices. Here are some recommendations for your Costa Rica adventure in September:
Manuel Antonio National Park
Situated on the Pacific coast, Manuel Antonio National Park is a must-visit destination. This small but beautiful park boasts stunning white-sand beaches, lush rainforests, and an abundance of wildlife, including sloths, monkeys, and a variety of exotic birds. September is an excellent time to visit, as the crowds are fewer, and the verdant greenery is at its peak.
Arenal Volcano and La Fortuna
The majestic Arenal Volcano and the charming town of La Fortuna offer a unique combination of natural wonders and adventure. While you may not see any lava flows, the volcano's impressive stature and the surrounding hot springs make for a memorable experience. La Fortuna is a great base for exploring the area, with activities like hiking, ziplining, and whitewater rafting.
Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve
For nature lovers, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is a must-visit destination. This lush, misty cloud forest is home to an incredible biodiversity of plants and animals, including the famous resplendent quetzal. September is an ideal time to visit, as the forest is vibrant and alive after the rainy season.
Where to Stay
Costa Rica offers a wide range of accommodation options, from luxurious resorts to eco-friendly lodges and budget-friendly hotels. Here are a few recommendations:
- Manuel Antonio: Si Como No Resort, Tulemar Bungalows & Villas, or Arenas del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort
- Arenal/La Fortuna: The Springs Resort & Spa, Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa, or Arenal Volcano Inn
- Monteverde: El Establo Mountain Hotel, Monteverde Lodge & Gardens, or Monteverde Country Lodge
No matter where you choose to stay, Costa Rica promises an unforgettable experience filled with stunning natural beauty, adventure, and warm hospitality. September is an excellent time to visit, as you'll avoid the peak tourist season and enjoy the lush, green landscapes.
