Hi All! Taking my 11 and 9 year old to Costa Rica in March with my husband. Can you recommend some great places to stay and fun things to do? Happy to rent a car and fly in/out of different locales. Merci!

There is a jaguar rescue center on the east coast. Also la fortuna is a great town to explore with dormant volcanos near by to hike with amazing waterfalls.

There are probably nice places to stay there now ..I went 20 year ago and they were building. Wild horse would run past and there were hiking trails.... I'd love to see photos of what the area looks like now

Costa Rica Adventures for Families

Where to Stay

There are many great places to stay in Costa Rica, but here are a few of our favorites for families:

  • Nayara Springs Resort in Arenal is a luxury resort with hot springs, a water park, and a kids' club.
  • Hacienda Guachipelín in Guanacaste is a working cattle ranch with horseback riding, zip-lining, and a swimming pool.
  • La Fortuna Lodge in La Fortuna is a budget-friendly option with a pool, a garden, and a restaurant.

Things to Do

There are plenty of fun things to do in Costa Rica for families of all ages. Here are a few ideas:

  • Visit the Arenal Volcano. The Arenal Volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, and it's a great place to go hiking, zip-lining, and rafting.
  • Go surfing. Costa Rica is a great place to learn to surf, and there are many surf schools located along the coast.
  • Visit the Tortuguero National Park. The Tortuguero National Park is a nesting ground for sea turtles, and it's a great place to see these amazing creatures up close.
  • Take a boat tour of the canals. The canals of Costa Rica are home to a variety of wildlife, including monkeys, sloths, and birds.
  • Visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest. The Monteverde Cloud Forest is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it's home to a variety of plants and animals that can't be found anywhere else in the world.

Getting Around

The best way to get around Costa Rica is by renting a car. This will give you the flexibility to explore the country at your own pace and visit the places that interest you most.

Flying In/Out

There are two international airports in Costa Rica: Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in San José and Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) in Liberia. You can fly into either airport and rent a car to explore the country.

Conclusion

Costa Rica is a great place to take your family on an adventure. With its beautiful scenery, abundant wildlife, and plenty of fun activities, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
