I just got back , went to the highest sky bar 84 floors up and it was great, drinks were very reasonable also ! Also did a dinner cruise and enjoyed that.

And take the sky train to the weekend market ! Tons of shopping very cheap

My top 3 fav temples are wat pho, wat Arun, and the Grand palace. They're all close to one another so I'd say start the day early and go see all 3 of them in a day! You can easily find your way around, you don't need a tour for them. I also really enjoyed my day trip to Ayutthaya! Simply amazing!

When you visit the temples, they are super picky about what you wear. I had nice sandals on,(not flip flops) but they had no strap over my heel. I was sent away! My aunt had similar sandals but because hers had a strap over the heel, she was allowed in.

They were particularly militant in the year of mourning after the kings death. I personally find the dress code to be sexist bullshit. Nearby you can catch a sex show, they’re handing flyers out about women and ping pong balls and you walk down a street to realize there’s girls in bikinis and high heels inviting you in for a drink. Then there’s the happy endings. Maybe they could direct some of their puritanism there?

I agree with wat arun and grand palace. Also check out the Royal Creamatorium. Its beautiful and celebrates their beloved King who passed away a year ago. Its free!

Do all the usual temples as suggested above, China town, the market. IMO, stay just outside Kaohsan Road- right on the river. So awesome. Close to the hubbub, quiet, easy access to the river boat system to get to all the major attractions. New Siam Riverside, or my friend once stayed right next door at the slightly fancier place- River Surya. We stayed at the Baioyke Sky on it very last night in Thailand- not a good area in my opinion (but still an experience- had some crazy mall shopping).

The BTS (Bangkok sky trai) is really easy to use and cheap. Khao San Road is not for everyone. Bangkok is so much more . . .

Nobody said Khao San road is for everyone! I didn’t like Khao San road at night so much- once the night vendors came out soliciting ping pong shows right next to my kids.....they didn’t clue in thank goodness. But eating deep fried crickets and street performers, plentiful cheap and great food and shopping!
It would be great if you’re in your 20’s and want to party at night.
Just saying the area was great- River boat access and fun vibe, but we were a couple blocks away- so we got a good night sleep and being right on the river with the river boat stop a 2 minute walk away was awesome.
I didn’t like the business district so much- mall shopping wasn’t my thing. But we definitely didn’t hit every nook and cranny of Bangkok- I’m sure there’s other great places. Just our experience was fantastic where we stayed.
