Take the circumvesuviana train from Naples down to Sorrento and spend a night there. Try to get a hotel with a view of the Bay of Naples, we stayed at Il Nido, and enjoy a morning watching the sunrise over the bay with Mount Vesuvius in the back drop. Lots of good food in Sorrento as well.

oh should add, that is the same train that you take to Pompeii Scavi, which is the stop for Pompeii. We never went, but Herculaneum is pretty cool to see as well.

Herculaneum is lesser known but even more spectacular than Pompeii. It’s also smaller and easily walked. Both are amazing.

We lived there for four years and loved the free beach on Capri. Ischia is a joy and fun with a one day scooter rental. Pompeii is awesome but better if you read the Robert Harris book. If your pressed for time Herculaneum feels more manageable with less volume. Climbing to the hole in the mountain in Positano(one of four in the world) is cool. Staying on the Amalfi coast is less stressful than negotiating Naples though we did it with 10 last March staying in Spaca Napoli in an airbnb. Loved seeing Napoli soterrana and Christmas alley as well as taking the funicular from Montesanto up to Vomero to visit my favourite Cameo store Di Paulos which is located by the certosa San martino plan to eat a lunch while enjoying the view over Naples to Vesuvius if you look carefully you'll see ancient Spaca Napoli the oringinal Roman/Greek road that still bisects the city. If you like art the museum at Capidimonte has some good pieces

Sorgeto natural hot springs nearby (and free!)
There was once a mud spa nearby but I'm not sure if it's still open, I can't find it the name anymore (it might have been converted to a hotel)

Also I personally recommend skipping Naples (maybe stop for pizza) but the rest of southern Italy was a delight!

The Blue Grotto is definitely worth it-so beautiful. There are boat tours that do the Grotto and the Isle of Capri in one day. Il Retrivo in Montepertuso (above Positano) has delicious food and a beautiful view. Worth the trip!

The highest point on Capri. Lots of shopping, and I had the best Marguerita pizza in my life there.

In November, we were on a cruise and booked a ferry to Capri fir the whole day. It was so worth it. Capri has these tiny buses to take you to Ana Capri, where you can take a chair lift to to
