Blue lagoon is a must.

to add on. Shuttle will take you from airport to blue lagoon then to town centre (or vice versa). Blue lagoon is opposite of town centre so it makes the most sense to do it leaving the airport or on the way to the airport

Aeran After Hallgrimskirkja walk down to the water to see the famous Sea Voyageur statue, then over to Harpa concert hall (gorgeous reflecting glass structure). From there, check out an array of dining. We really enjoyed the "fry pan dinner" of cod or Arctic char at Messin.

I used Gray Line bus tours to arrange a shuttle to town. (I was on a tight deadline.) but tehy can take you straight to Blue Lagoon too. And arrange with them a public ride back from Blue Lagoon to town, about 3-4 hours later

I rented a car but in hindsight the bus would have been better

Just chiming in to also endorse blue lagoon. I try and avoid “tourist traps” like the plague but this was truly a highlight of iceland for me.
In 24 hours you can also do the entire golden circle as well. I’d highly recommend doing this either via bus tour or rental car. I think renting a car will be easiest as you can do everything on your own schedule.

+ Blue Lagoon
+ Big church in city
+ Golden Circle
++ Rent a car so you can do everything on your own schedule.
I’ve been there 3 times now, such a gorgeous country.

24 Hours in Reykjavik: A Traveler's Guide

Dear traveler,

Thank you for reaching out for suggestions on how to spend your 24 hours in Reykjavik. I'm excited to help you make the most of your short visit to this beautiful city in Iceland.

Traveling Between the Airport and City

One of the best ways to travel between Keflavik International Airport and Reykjavik city center is by taking the Flybus. The Flybus offers convenient and affordable transportation with regular departures from the airport to the BSI bus terminal in Reykjavik. From there, you can easily transfer to a smaller bus that will take you to your accommodation or desired destination within the city.

Must-See/Do in Reykjavik

During your short stay in Reykjavik, there are a few must-see/do activities that I highly recommend:

  1. Visit the iconic Hallgrimskirkja Church for panoramic views of the city from its tower.
  2. Explore the vibrant streets of downtown Reykjavik, filled with shops, cafes, and street art.
  3. Relax in one of the city's geothermal pools, such as the popular Blue Lagoon or Laugardalslaug.
  4. Sample traditional Icelandic cuisine, including dishes like fermented shark and skyr.
  5. Take a stroll along the picturesque waterfront and visit the Harpa Concert Hall.

I hope these suggestions help you make the most of your short visit to Reykjavik. Enjoy your time in this unique and charming city!

Safe travels,

Your Reykjavik Travel Guide
