Just flew JAL from Toronto - Jakarta (via Chicago and Narita) this past Monday. It wasn't bad at all - great food, quite the variety of entertainment, and extremely nice flight attendants. Transit times also weren't bad (1 hr in Chicago and 1.5 hrs in Narita).
Kate
Cool!... My flight is TO via Chicago to Tokyo to Sydney!!!... Crazy route- but, price is right!
thanks for feedback!
Ray
You won't be disappointed!! Flew JAL last year, they have quite a modern fleet of airplanes. They have recently upgraded their interiors on their B777's which makes them a lot more comfortable. Pending on your route (long haul) if they use the B787 you would be in even greater comfort.
JAL is amongst the top 10 airlines.
Customer Service is great too ("One World" alliance holds them selves to a higher standard when it comes to customer service)
Kate
Thank you!!!... Mine would be two long hauls- to Tokyo, layover, on to Sydney... Your report is very reassuring!!
Ray
Happy and safe travels!!!
Another thing that may be worthwhile to look into is(not sure how often you travel), since your trips are such long distances and will require lay overseas. Look into cretid cards that give you free lounge access (don't waste them in North American Lounges though).
Not sure where u flying from to NRT before you change flights to Sydney but unfortunately 787 does not fly Tokyo to Sydney.
Will be a B747 or B777 (both are larger aircrafts so comfort will be there)

I flew JAL years ago from Vancouver to Tokyo and the plane was huge, comfortable with great service.

Carrie Freeman, which airport?
Lisa
Try asking for the extra legroom seats by the emergency exits, if you like to stretch out. On a long-haul international flight you might have more competition for these, but once they begged me to take those seats as the Japanese passengers don't like them!
Lisa
If your Tokyo stop is at Narita, I had a 6-hour layover there about 15 years ago. Found the airport very comfortable with some fun gadgets in the shops. Toilets were both western and Asian styles to suit all passengers.
