Can anyone please give me tips/suggestions about what food/snacks you are allowed to bring on the plane with you? We are flying with air canada to Cuba nex week and am just unsure of the rules in general! Dont want to have to pay outrageous prices on the plane or at the airport

I have brought fruit snacks, bear paws, small Pringles, candy etc. Just not liquids. The kids each had a backpack and had snacks, colouring, play dough... Each time we fly they have snacks but I do buy them a drink with a lid on it before the plane because we have spilled juice in the plane in their cups. My kids are older though, I am just thinking back and that packing a cup would of been smart ha ha

You can pretty much bring any food on the plane as long as it isn't liquid or is less than 100 ml. So you couldn't bring soup but you could bring salad with dressing, sandwiches, pizza, veggies, etc. When we went to Cuba we didn't stay in an all inclusive and I brought collapsible reusable containers and when we couldn't finish our meals we would take the rest to go and eat it as a snack or for lunch the next day. If you are staying in a casa they will almost always have a fridge you can use.

Yes you can bring snacks, as long as you eat it before you land. You can't take the food into another country

We were on a westjet flight once that was delayed in leaving and therefore well past the lunch hour. Much to our surprise they actually ran out of food so we had nothing until the late afternoon after we landed. Now I always pack a lunch for onboard....Subway, Timmy's, my own or whatever. Always pick up bottled water after we go through security.

Never went to Cuba. But when we go to Mexico ,we take subway with us so we aren't eating airline food. Lots of snacks,so they last U.S. Through the week in our room!

I went on direct flight to Varadero with air canada in August last year. They do not serve any complimentary snacks. The "good" airline food usually run out in 30 mins and they are expensive, you're left with carrot sticks/veggie. they told me they have to ration it out.

I like to bring my own tea bags! Airlines have the worst tea, and so do the resorts.

Basically you can take anything that is not liquid on the plance (e.g. no yogurt). Depending on the country if it's fruit or meat you may have to throw it out if you have not eaten it when you get off the plane.

You can take liquids up to a 100ml in sealed bottles. For example you can even bring your own liquor if it's in bottles smaller than 100ml and avoid paying a crazy price on the plane!

I don't think that is correct - you can do it, but I think they can confiscate it if they see it.

You don't think? Or you don't know? I have done it before so I know

Did the flight attendant see it? Friend is a WJ Flight attendant and she says they don't allow it.

Nope but I got past security with it without issues. I only brought five samples for a buddy in my carry on of stuff they don't sell in his country.

Mirza I don't think security cares...but the airlines do...it's how they make even more money off us poor travellers.

I know, I haven't drank it on the plane, but next time I will try to test this rule, and see how it goes.

We always take leftover pizza but you have to eat it before you enter customs in the next country.

You can buy juice, pop or other beverages after security. I usually buy a coffee and take it along. You can also fill an empty water bottle after security. That way you down't have to buy one...

We generally go to Tim Horton's and buy some bagels or sandwiches. A Booster Juice is a fantastic treat on the plane too! (edit: after security)

When we fly westjet we pre-order our meals. Pretty good prices/selections and you get the food before in flight service.

What Food Can You Bring on a Plane?

Planning ahead and packing your own snacks and meals for a flight can be a great way to save money and ensure you have options that suit your dietary preferences or restrictions. However, it's important to be aware of the rules and regulations regarding what food items are allowed on planes.

Air Canada's Rules for Bringing Food on Flights

According to Air Canada's website, you are generally permitted to bring solid foods such as:

  • Sandwiches
  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Baked goods (e.g., bread, cookies, crackers)
  • Snacks (e.g., nuts, pretzels, chips)
  • Candy

However, there are some restrictions on liquids, gels, and aerosols due to security regulations. Any liquids, gels, or aerosols must be in containers of 100 ml (3.4 oz) or less and must be placed in a single, clear, resealable plastic bag.

Suggested Snacks and Meals to Pack

Here are some ideas for tasty and convenient snacks and meals to bring on your flight to Cuba:

  • Sandwiches with your favorite fillings (e.g., peanut butter and jelly, hummus and veggies, turkey and cheese)
  • Fresh fruits like apples, bananas, grapes, or orange slices
  • Nuts, trail mix, or granola bars
  • Crackers or pretzels
  • Baked goods like muffins, scones, or energy bars
  • Homemade salads or wraps
  • Small containers of yogurt or cheese

Remember to pack any liquids or gels (e.g., dressings, dips, or yogurt) in containers of 100 ml or less and place them in a clear plastic bag.

Tips for Packing Food for Your Flight

  • Use insulated bags or coolers to keep perishable items fresh
  • Pack utensils, napkins, and any condiments you might need
  • Consider portion sizes and don't overpack to avoid waste
  • Bring a reusable water bottle and fill it after passing through security

By packing your own snacks and meals, you can avoid the high prices at the airport and on the plane while ensuring you have access to food options that suit your preferences and dietary needs.
