Hi - we're thinking about a week of diving in Cuba in March. Any recommendations for where to dive, and where to stay (low key resort?) Thanks!

i stayed at villas jibacoa in december. i didn't dive, but i did snorkel multiple times as the reefs are just off the coast there. there is a dive centre at the resort. it's a 3 star, so totally low key (i have never stayed in an all-inclusive before, and not really comfortable with them generally but i liked how low key it was). recommend for sure! beautiful reefs, right there! you can book through air transat. i think it was about $800 per person for 8 nights, and about 80 min drive from havana if you want to also be able to visit there.

I would! I really liked the cute lodgings. The beach was beautiful. It’s not super fancy but that’s part of why I really liked it. The staff were so great and they seemed to really like their jobs there.

It's a great place for snorkeling. And you are dead on about the staff - they are great. Hint: We took inexpensive bikes each time we went, used them to cycle the countryside, then left them. Transportation is difficult in Cuba and bikes are expensive and hard to come by there. The recipients were ecstatic to get them.

Lynne we are on the same page! I have built old steel bikes before and taken them to Cuba and left them with the families I stayed with!

diving around Cayo Coco & Cayo Santa Maria is not good. Go south to Holguin and the diving is much better

Diving in Cuba: A Week of Underwater Adventures

Cuba is a fantastic destination for diving enthusiasts, offering a diverse array of marine life and stunning underwater landscapes. If you're planning a week-long diving trip to Cuba in March, here are some recommendations for where to dive and where to stay.

Where to Dive

One of the best diving spots in Cuba is the Jardines de la Reina (Gardens of the Queen), an archipelago located off the southern coast of Cuba. This pristine marine reserve boasts an incredible diversity of coral reefs, vibrant marine life, and crystal-clear waters. It's a true paradise for divers and snorkelers alike.

Another excellent diving location is the Bay of Pigs (Bahía de Cochinos), known for its rich history and remarkable underwater topography. Here, you'll find sunken ships, vibrant coral formations, and a variety of marine creatures, including sharks, rays, and colorful tropical fish.

If you're looking for a more easily accessible diving spot, consider the María la Gorda region in the Guanahacabibes National Park. This area offers excellent shore diving opportunities, with diverse coral gardens and a chance to spot majestic creatures like turtles, reef sharks, and even crocodiles.

Where to Stay

For a low-key resort experience, consider staying at the Cayo Levisa Resort, located on the small island of Cayo Levisa off the northern coast of Cuba. This eco-friendly resort offers comfortable bungalows, pristine beaches, and excellent diving opportunities nearby.

Another great option is the Iberostar Ensenachos, a charming all-inclusive resort located in the Jardines del Rey archipelago. This resort features a dive center on-site, making it convenient for divers to explore the surrounding waters and coral reefs.

If you prefer a more authentic Cuban experience, consider staying in a casa particular (private home rental) in towns like Trinidad or Viñales. These historic towns offer a glimpse into the local culture and provide easy access to nearby diving sites.

No matter where you choose to dive and stay in Cuba, you're sure to have an unforgettable week filled with incredible underwater adventures and unique cultural experiences.
