Can someone recommend somewhere reliable to rent a car in the states that's relatively cheap? Specifically Arizona if possible

Yes, I booked before and they're the best

If you are able to add road start and roadside plus to your current insurance that will save you money on your rental (you can decline their coverage)

Most credit cards have coverage for some of the extra insurance charges. Check your agreement.

Yup mine has coverage!

Erin Lee make sure you use that credit card to book (I think that’s the stipulation with them)

I use a Costco or hotwire or something like that and get good prices in AZ. It usually ends up being Enterprise. Stay away from Budget!

I agree. Stay away from Budget and check your credit card statement after. In Vegas they charged us $150 extra (after we returned the car early and they "recalculated" the price) and we had to fight to get the money back!!

I would caution against renting in Phoenix. They add huge fees, levies, and taxes to rental cars. Lots of cities just outside that don't gauge the tourists

We rent at the Phoenix airport quite frequently but book ahead through hotwire, Costco etc. Have got some very reasonable one way prices to Yuma.

Biggest cost is insurance. If you cant get Roaststar on your ICBC Insurance, check your Visa or other credit card. Some include the insurance for car rental. Find out details of what is included and what you will need to buy at car rental co.

Use roadstar here so you can decline insurance. And yes Phoenix is stupid pricey. We rented in Tucson for a week and it was $300

If you are a Costco member, they have good rates

I'm not but could I book using a friends membership?

Erin Lee I suppose so, they would book it and list you as the driver, you do have to be 25 years of age

Costco is the best price wise. Decline all extra insurance coverage once you get there, our ICBC insurance covers everything. They will strong arm you and say our insurance does not apply in the US but it does!! Make sure you are Roadstar here. The roads and highway are very easy to drive in and around Scottsdale. Hope this was helpful! Good luck

A friend just went through an “air b&b” like idea for car rentals. You rent a person’s car!! I’m afraid I don’t know the details, but it was 1/3 of the price.

That’s a scary though what with liability insurance and all. Ike’s.

Candice

Jeannett apparently you buy it with the rental. ??

Candice I Wonder about the USA and all the litigation and different requirements to have insurance. Seems a bit fuzzy. Personally I’d stick with a company.

I rented a JUCY camper van on Groupon.Com. picked it up in Vegas and did a round trip to Grand Canyon. It was an awesome van!! Would rent one again but I would insist on more blankets or buy some.
