We booked Hvar Croatia in September for two weeks through travelzoo. It was a really good deal. A/I for two for $775. You need to take a ferry over to Hvar from Split but it’s inexpensive ($43 round trip).

Lisa thanks, that's about the same as we've been looking at. A bit of a milk run but not a lot of choices from the west. Have a great trip, we love Croatia

Tammy they cancelled one leg of our flight so we ended up booking with westjet to Amsterdam. And will spend an extra week there! Love retired life and the flexibility!

Dumb question, but does All Inclusive in Europe mean the same as All Inclusive in Mexico or Cuba??

Profile picture of Lisa

Lisa

Dustin from what I read on our booking it is food drinks etc. No flights. No transportation to/from

Good to know, some sites all inclusive seemed like it was just free breakfast.

Try westjet Calgary to Amsterdam then to Split direct with easy jet or klm. Quite cheap right now.

Thats the plan on getting there, yes. I have no idea what hotel or areas are good though. Or if resorts are worth looking into.

Cindy you just need to be aware of changing requirements depending on layovers....we just canceled our flights to London with a plan to head to Croatia. westjet started changing the itinerary (also an issue) and the easy jet flights btwn Gatwick and Croatia were disappearing....I think because Croatia just implemented a testing protocol for flightsthru the UK. With case counts increasing in the Netherlands, many EU countries are not allowing them in...which seems to lead to some uncertainty about transiting thru Amsterdam. I planned but didn't execute 3 options from Gatwick...none of them seemed straightforward.

I rented a beautiful air b&b on the ocean in korcula - very quiet over there in September and you can do day trips via ferry - recommend west jet to Amsterdam then fly to Dubrovnik- spend couple nights there before heading to an island

Depending on how relaxed you want the trip- pula is really nice! Rovinj is busier and more touristy but it does have better views

Croatia vs Sardinia: September Relaxation Showdown

So you're looking for a relaxing beach getaway in September, and you've narrowed it down to Croatia or Sardinia? Excellent choices! Both offer stunning beaches, delicious food, and a chance to soak up the late summer sun. Let's break down what each destination offers to help you make the perfect choice:

Croatia in September:

Croatia in September offers warm, sunny days with slightly cooler evenings, making it ideal for both beach lounging and exploring. The sea is still perfect for swimming and water sports. The crowds thin out after the peak summer season, meaning more tranquility and better deals.

Beach Bliss:

  • Hvar: Known for its vibrant nightlife, Hvar also boasts stunning beaches like Dubovica and Zaraće. Consider staying in a resort near Hvar Town for easy access to amenities and boat trips to nearby islands.
  • Brač: Home to Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn), one of Croatia's most iconic beaches. Bol, a town on Brač, offers various resorts and a relaxed atmosphere.
  • Makarska Riviera: A string of picturesque villages along the Dalmatian coast with pebble beaches and crystal-clear waters. Brela, Baška Voda, and Makarska Town offer a range of resort options.

Resort Recommendations (Croatia):

  • Sun Gardens Dubrovnik (Dubrovnik area): Offers luxurious amenities, multiple pools, and a private beach.
  • Hotel Park (Split): A stylish hotel with a fantastic location overlooking the sea.
  • Bluesun Hotel Elaphusa (Brač): A large resort complex with a range of activities and facilities.

Sardinia in September:

Sardinia in September is similarly blessed with fantastic weather, fewer crowds, and lower prices than July and August. The Emerald Coast is famous for its stunning turquoise waters and white sandy beaches, while the south of the island offers a more rugged, less developed coastline.

Beach Bliss:

  • Costa Smeralda (Emerald Coast): Beaches like Capriccioli, Liscia Ruja, and Spiaggia del Principe are must-sees. Expect luxurious resorts and a glamorous atmosphere.
  • Chia: Located in the south, Chia offers a more laid-back vibe and stunning beaches like Tuerredda and Cala Cipolla.
  • Villasimius: Another gem in the south with beautiful beaches such as Porto Giunco and Simius Beach.

Resort Recommendations (Sardinia):

  • Hotel Romazzino, a Luxury Collection Hotel (Costa Smeralda): A luxurious beachfront resort with stunning views.
  • Forte Village Resort (Santa Margherita di Pula): A sprawling resort with a wide range of facilities and activities.
  • Hotel Chia Laguna - Hotel Village (Chia): Offers different accommodation options and direct access to beautiful beaches.

The Verdict?

Ultimately, the best choice depends on your preferences. For a mix of vibrant nightlife, historical charm, and stunning beaches, Croatia is a great pick. For pristine white sand beaches, a luxurious atmosphere, and a more secluded escape, Sardinia is hard to beat. Either way, you're guaranteed a fantastic September getaway!
