Where should we go and eat in Vegas for a non-gambling, theatre-loving duo?

Question:

Right now, the plan is that my mother and I will be traveling to Las Vegas for a week in March, and will also be spending her birthday weekend in Seattle.
re Vegas: We are looking for any recommendations for place to go and places to eat in Vegas (we've never been, and don't gamble, but my mum loves live theatre).
re Seattle: My mum is off heavy meals after a recent bout of radiation but I'd like to take her for a nice dinner for her birthday. Does anyone have any suggestio… See more

I am on chemo and went to Vegas. Beside the Flamingo hotel there was a restaurant called tilted kilt and the food and service was great. Reasonable priced. I would pay a bit extra for a room and stay at the Venetian. Check around for prices. The rooms at the Flamingo and LINQ were old even the refurbished ones don't cut it for me. Guy Ferreira's is good food too. Get yourself a 3day public transit card and it will take you up and down the strip so you can take a look at the various hotels which are fabulously decorated with themes. It cheap. A lot of walking in Vegas. Australian Bee Gees good. Cheap. Take showtime bus to hotel. Cheaper than taxi. Take taxi back to airport is only $15. Security screening at airport is awful slow so allow time. Have fun!

A fun Seattle experience is to take the quick ferry across to Alki Beach and have dinner at Salty’s Waterfront Seafood Grill. Beautiful view from the restaurant and when you take the ferry back across to Seattle you see all the lights of downtown lit up. Good food too. I’ve had the seafood chowder with sherry poured on top after it’s served to you. Yummy. Make a reservation.

Karen Thanks Karen. I'm allergic to shellfish (hence no sushi) but I'll look at the menu!

It’s a “nice experience” with the ferry, small walk along the waterfront, beautiful view, nice restaurant, small walk, ferry with gorgeous evening view!
Do you have a hotel? An alternative restaurant idea is, we stayed at “The Marqueen” which is a beautiful old affordable hotel. Our rate included a lovely breakfast with fidalgo bay local coffee and yummy fruit and muffins. We had dinner across the street from the hotel at Toulouse Petit Kitchen and it was lovely. There’s also a great coffee shop attached to hotel and a grocery store near.

I would recommend checking out tripadvisor. There are numerous tips on the forum page regarding things to do, especially as we don't really know what you like to do.

Scaiter tripadvisor has a vegas forum section and they have pinned threads to help people out with suggestions. It looks like most of your items are downtown, however there are things on the strip such as Linq high roller, walkways through venetian and palazzo, caesars forum shoppes, cirque de soleil shows, etc. I would suggest a bit of an itinerary to help you plan, but be sure to not overplan. You can't do it all and you will be exhausted if you do try.

Tried to get tickets in Vegas once. Cheapest was over $300. The casinos and businesses buy them up to give to their best customers.

Mandalay Bay one of my favourites, quiet in the evening compared to other casinos, good way to wind down t end of night, at end of strip so lots of walking or get deuce tickets, easy jump off, jump on bus, can not go wrong with cirque shows, Ka is my favourite. Do not have favorite restaurant there are so many fantastic ones

Vegas the Show is wonderfully entertaining, if it's still showing at Planet Hollywood. We saw it 5 years ago and loved it. Lots of great restaurants nearby too. Another experience we will never forget is Le Reve the Dream at the Wynn Hotel... fabulous! Highly recommend it! Have a wonderful time with your mom!
