Cinque Terre is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been
Tracey
I agree. Loved that whole area. I'd also suggest Venice and Rome.

Omg, there's a place in the middle of Tuscany that I loved so much I ended up staying and working there for a year. It's a guesthouse that also has double rooms in a private villa called Fattoria Bassetto. It's about 45 minutes on the train from Florence, the town itself is called Certaldo and it's a 10 minute walk from the station. The building itself used to be a monastery, it is gorgeous and has an amazing guest kitchen and library filled with antiques to keep you entertained. And of course you overlook wine country in which you can bike around and go on tastings. There's also a pool and hammock and really it's just paradise.

The Cinque Terre is amazing, it should definitely be on your list of places to visit. Florence is a wonderful city with great culture, amazing history, beautiful architecture & the best food & gelato we ate in Italy in the 3 weeks we were there. We also really enjoyed Salerno (south of Naples), from where we day-tripped to Pompeii & Paestum; all 3 are wonderul places. Salerno is on the coast, so the views are amazing. Pompeii is of course the site of an historic volcano eruption; the remains are eerie but fascinating. Paestum has some incredible Graeco-Roman temple remains. If you're going to Rome (& why wouldn't you), all the tourist sights are well-documented; we recommend the Hotel Margaret (Monica at the desk is wonderful, very helpful) & there is a great restaurant across the street & down the stairs (we ate there twice while in Rome, it was so good...have the prosciutto & bufala).

how much time do you have? Italy is one of my favoirte places to travel to, are you looking for history? activity? beaches? have you thought about what regions you want to see? i highly suggest at least 4 days per city to see the sights, taste the food and make some friends.
Cindy
Venice is probably the one city that really only needs 3 days at the most. Unless you're doing more than the island.

Thanks everyone! We are planning to go for two weeks. The main places we are thinking of going are Venice, Florence, and Rome and maybe Cinque Terre. It's my first trip to Europe and I'm really excited!!
