Question:

Looking for a safe place to stay for a month in January 2020. Will probably do airbnb. We love beaches, activities, restaurants and friendly people. We do love Mexico But it has to be a safe place for tourists. Have already stayed in Ixtapa and Playa Laropa. Great vacations there. Weather is awesome and so are the people. Would like to try a different place. Love to hear your ideas

Le Martinique! It is majority French speaking, however. I went with my bf and his family (who all speak French, and I do not). I managed to get around just fine! And hey, that's what translator apps are for
. We stayed in an amazing airbnb, about 15mins from the ocean, which we could see from the big balcony that overlooked the rolling hills.. his parents stayed there for a month, the kids did 2wks. They had amazing beaches, great snorkeling, delicious food, friendly people, we hiked a volcano, wandered the town, spent a day on a catamaran and saw dolphins..! Highly recommend.

Huatulca if Mexico, otherwise take a really good look at Belize. The only place that is unsafe is Belize City, and there’s no reason to hang out there anyway.

Check out San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua as an option.
Here is one example of a 3-bedroom rental that is $1500 USD for a month. It is located within a 15 minute walk to the center of town.

Doli I.have been living in San Juan del Sur for 7 years. Feel free to PM with questions. I am happy to answer them!
That rental is just one example. You can go much cheaper or much more expensive depending on what your wants and needs are.

How about Hawaii? Not as budget friendly as Mexico, but if you are staying a month, you could even do 2 or 3 islands to mix it up.

Manzanillo, Mexico is a great place to visit. It is more authentic than Cancun or PV, the people are friendly, it is safe. If you are interested, I'm happy to provide more info. We have a nice hillside condo for rent. 10 mins walk to the beach.

I’m heading to El Cuyo, Mexico next month. It’s off the beaten path, some nice airbnb. Check out www.elcuyo.net for more info (Cathy is on FB too, i just can’t fund her right now). I’m away for the weekend right now but if you would like more specific info, send me a message. I travel solo and feel very safe in this area. Lots of amazing day trips too.

Safe Mexican Destinations for a Month-Long Stay in January 2020

Mexico is a beautiful country with a rich culture, stunning beaches, and warm hospitality. If you're looking for a safe place to stay for a month in January 2020, consider the following destinations:

Tulum

Tulum is a charming town on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. It's known for its well-preserved Mayan ruins, stunning beaches, and eco-friendly resorts. The town has a laid-back vibe and attracts many tourists who appreciate its natural beauty and cultural attractions. Tulum is generally considered safe for tourists, but it's always a good idea to take precautions and avoid isolated areas, especially at night.

Sayulita

Sayulita is a small surf town located in the state of Nayarit, about an hour north of Puerto Vallarta. It has a lively and bohemian atmosphere, with excellent surfing, beautiful beaches, and a vibrant restaurant scene. While it's a popular tourist destination, Sayulita maintains a safe and friendly atmosphere, making it an ideal choice for a month-long stay.

Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta is a well-established tourist destination on the Pacific coast of Mexico. It offers a wide range of activities, from exploring the historic Malecón boardwalk to enjoying the vibrant nightlife and dining scene. While parts of Puerto Vallarta can be crowded, there are quieter areas such as Conchas Chinas or Mismaloya that provide a more relaxing atmosphere. Overall, Puerto Vallarta is considered safe for tourists, but it's always wise to exercise caution and follow basic safety guidelines.

Tips for a Safe Stay

  • Research your accommodation thoroughly and book through reputable platforms like Airbnb or trusted hotel chains.
  • Avoid wearing expensive jewelry or carrying large amounts of cash.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and avoid isolated areas, especially at night.
  • Learn basic Spanish phrases to help you navigate and communicate more effectively.
  • Purchase travel insurance and register with your embassy or consulate.

No matter where you choose to stay in Mexico, remember to respect local customs and traditions, and enjoy the warmth and hospitality of the Mexican people.
