Hello,
Does anyone know of a good translating app to use when you are not using wifi or data?
This would be for Italy, as well as Mexico.
Thank you.

I use Google translate you can download whatever language you want and then it should be available offline.

Google Translate allows you to pre-download a language to use offline. Similar to their maps.

Tym Google Translate only works for typing offline, not voice recognition. I used it offline in Japan and it worked well though I would have preferred being able to use voice translation.

I gotta say I tried to use Google translate in Costa Rica talking to a woman one night - it really wasn’t good. Maybe that’s true if it’s where we are with all translators? - but I know a fair bit of Spanish and it was still a challenge. I might just suck at using it but if you can practice with it before you go, do

Offline Translating Apps for Italy and Mexico

When traveling to foreign countries with limited internet access, having a reliable offline translating app can be a lifesaver for overcoming language barriers. Here are some great options to consider for your upcoming trips to Italy and Mexico:

Google Translate

Google Translate is a popular choice for offline translation, as it allows you to download language packs for use without an internet connection. Here's how you can set it up for your trips:

  1. Install the Google Translate app on your mobile device.
  2. Open the app and select the "Offline Translation" option.
  3. Download the language packs for Italian and Spanish.

Once the language packs are downloaded, you can use Google Translate offline for text translation, camera-based translation, and even two-way conversation mode.

Microsoft Translator

Microsoft Translator is another excellent option for offline translation. Like Google Translate, it allows you to download language packs for offline use. Here's how to set it up:

  1. Install the Microsoft Translator app on your mobile device.
  2. Open the app and navigate to the "Offline Translation" section.
  3. Download the language packs for Italian and Spanish.

Microsoft Translator offers text translation, camera-based translation, and even offline speech-to-text translation for supported languages.

iTranslate

If you prefer a dedicated offline translation app, iTranslate is a great choice. It offers offline translation for a wide range of languages, including Italian and Spanish. Here's how to use it:

  1. Install the iTranslate app on your mobile device.
  2. Purchase the "Offline Content" from within the app for the desired languages (Italian and Spanish).
  3. Once downloaded, you can use the app for offline text translation, voice translation, and even website translation.

While iTranslate requires a one-time purchase for offline content, it offers a more comprehensive offline translation experience compared to free alternatives.

With any of these apps, remember to download the language packs before your trip to ensure you can access offline translation when needed. Additionally, it's always a good idea to have a backup power bank or portable charger to keep your device charged while on the go.
