I went last fall, wish I had more time to explore other towns as I only had a chance to go to Yangon and Bagan. In Yangon you'll have to check out the Shwedagon Pagoda. I took an overnight bus to Bagan and went to check out the pagodas and temples. The bigger ones i checked out were the Shwesandaw Pagoda, Sulamani Temple, Myauk Guni and Mt Popa (a bit of a hike to the top and there's monkey pee and crap on the steps). A lot of people also go for the hot air balloon rides (pretty expensive) and the sunset river cruise. Rent a scooter, it'll make it a lot easier to get around especially if you want to catch the sun rise or sunset at a pagoda. The towns I wished I had a chance to see if I had more time were Inle Lake, Mandalay and Naypyitaw.

I watched Anthony Bourdain's Myanmar - Parts Unknown on CNN a few days ago. I enjoyed it but did not pay too much attention. He travelled overnight to a place with hundreds of temples. If you can find this segment somewhere, you'll get some ideas.

Inle lake is beautiful and so different than anything you'll ever see. There's a cute town outside of it with hotels and good restaurants where you hire a boat to take you to the lake with the floating markets, temples, gardens etc. Bagan is incredible too. Its cheap to hire a driver who will also be your guide, totally worth it cause it's super hot there and there are so many temples to see but they're spread out. The people on motorized bikes had trouble with battery charge halfway through the day! Make sure to eat at "Be Kind to Animals The Moon" in Bagan. Shwedagon pagoda in Yangon is huge and the city is an experience...super busy and crazy. Have fun!

Exploring Myanmar: Best Things to Do and Places to See
Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, is a captivating destination that offers a unique blend of ancient traditions, stunning landscapes, and rich cultural heritage. If you and your friend are planning a trip to this Southeast Asian gem in February, here are some recommendations for the best things to do and places to see.
Bagan Archaeological Zone
No visit to Myanmar is complete without exploring the Bagan Archaeological Zone, a vast plain dotted with thousands of ancient Buddhist temples and stupas. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a true marvel, and witnessing the breathtaking sight of these monuments at sunrise or sunset is an unforgettable experience.
Shwedagon Pagoda
Located in the heart of Yangon, the Shwedagon Pagoda is one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in Myanmar. This gilded stupa is a true architectural marvel, adorned with precious gemstones and standing tall as a symbol of Myanmar's rich spiritual heritage.
Inle Lake
Nestled among the rolling hills of Shan State, Inle Lake is a serene and picturesque destination. Here, you can observe the unique leg-rowing technique of the Intha fishermen, explore the floating gardens, and visit traditional weaving workshops.
Ngapali Beach
If you're looking for a relaxing beach getaway, Ngapali Beach on the Bay of Bengal is a must-visit. With its pristine white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and swaying palm trees, it's the perfect spot to unwind and soak up the tropical sun.
Yangon Street Food
Myanmar's cuisine is a delightful fusion of flavors, and no trip is complete without indulging in Yangon's vibrant street food scene. From mouth-watering mohinga (fish soup) to delicious samosas and traditional tea shops, the city's streets are a true culinary adventure.
These are just a few highlights of what Myanmar has to offer. With its rich cultural heritage, stunning natural landscapes, and warm hospitality, this captivating country is sure to leave you with unforgettable memories.
