Question:

Any recommendations for a family friendly beach holiday in SE Asia? Kids are 6 months and 3 years, and we're looking to spend $50 per night or less on accommodation. We were thinking Bali/Lombok but open to other suggestions, as we've never been to that part of the world.

One beautiful beach, a nice history piece, the Prison, but other than that, no activities and overpriced compared to the mainland. But that's just my personal opinion.

Bali is beautiful but you'll be hard pressed to find family friendly accommodation for the price range you are looking for.

Gili Air island off Bali is a great choice for kids. Affordable. No cars or scooters. Only cidomo (horse & cart) & bicycle.

I found Lombok to be a little unfriendly but that was back in 2003. The islanders are muslim and they were not nice to the dark skinned French people I was traveling with. Bali was superb and Hindu culture is amazing people aRe gentle and calm totally recommend Bali and Gili air as recommended earlier

Koh samui in Thailand is cheap and amazing... beautiful beaches, people doing fire shows etc, exotic animals, resorts, night markets, boat rides to the other islands... a lot of Thailand is pretty 3rd world though, don't know if your used to that... they defiantly have more "upper class" hotels on the island though... ( when I went to Thailand it was easier to find accommodation when I was actually in the city..)

The resort looks amazing, but is about 3x what they're hoping to pay per night

I haven't been to the resort in particular.. I was just trying to link to the island... it was 5 years ago that I went and stayed in places for $10/ nite and there was defiantly some nice ones in the 30-70 range...
