Flights within Canada are kinda silly. I wonder if you'll have better luck, finding a flight from an American airport to those destinations

A few years ago it cost me the same to have a week Disneyland vacation (flight hotel and park tickets) as it did flying to Hamilton Ont.

Get a flights points bonus credit card (capital one, avion, Amex, etc) and charge all your regular expenses to it. Most have substantial welcome bonuses and you'll only have to pay the airport tax. Flew to Montreal last year that way.

I just booked with westjet (for travel in February) and prices weren't terrible... Might be decent in June/July as well? I also signed up for westjet and received a one day discount offer code..

I wonder if there would be any deals on Boxing Day? I'll try the westjet thing and I just signed up for an aeroplan card.

aeroplan is the worst of all cards. Too many hidden fees and blackouts. Get a TD or RBC travel visa. These points are like cash for any airline.

Flights are generally cheapest 6 to 8 weeks before the flight. So probably check again in April.

Not usually in July but there were $400 flights at the beginning of June last year. So watch for a similar seat sale in the spring. That was westjet & AC.

Try New Leaf airlines

If any of you would like a referral link to an Amex card, let me know. I've found it to be the best earner for points travel in Canada.

That's what I have. 25,000 bonus points to join and first year fee waived. Those points are one flight back east!

Christin the platinum card is amazing!

Heather I have the gold card. I don't like the annual fee of the platinum card. It was tempting to switch though!

Christin you can get it down to effectively $299 for 60,000 points with a referral link (more than enough for two round trips in North America). Plus a bunch of other awesome and money-saving perks. http://amex.ca/share/heathmLQGy?CPID=100200325

Try small airports and choose the calendar option to see the lowest fares. I found a flight from Abbotsford to Hamilton for 129, which I have never seen before from westjet. That option was for one date the rest were the usual 300. For the time your looking for should find something! If not, Keep checking back something usually pops up

That's because of New Leaf

Heather True! Also, with New Leaf you have to pay extra for carry on (overhead bins) which adds up.

Sarah Grace yes, and even water, my neighbors used them 1 month ago Abbottsford to Hamilton, 6 hour delay in Edmonton, they said never again, also worst was driving to Chilliwack at 3 am for a 6 am departure. They said it was the most awful and uncomfortable flights they've ever been on. But it is cheap.

Every Tuesday westjet usually has seat sales. Just keep checking and closer to spring you'll find cheaper flights. Booking now is way too far in advance

Unfortunately there's a very good reason there's only ever been 1 deal posted from Vancouver to either Montreal or Ottawa in the last 5 years (a freak fare to Montreal for $268 CAD roundtrip including taxes). Cheap prices just don't happen when only 2 airlines monopolize a route.
westjet & air canada's prices are typically at their best about a season before travel.
Hopefully Canada Jetlines will stir things up in 2017 and help bring down prices on more routes within Canada... http://www.jetlines.ca/

Finding Affordable Flights from BC to Montreal or Ottawa

Planning a trip to Montreal or Ottawa from British Columbia?

While airfare can often be a significant expense, there are ways to find cheap flights that won't break the bank.

Consider Off-Season Travel

* End of June and early July are typically considered the "shoulder season" for travel. This period falls outside of peak tourist seasons, so you may be able to find lower fares.

Be Flexible with Departure and Return Dates

* Adjust your travel dates by even a few days can make a significant difference in airfare. Avoid flying on weekends or during major holidays.

Check Budget Airlines

* Consider flying with budget airlines such as Flair, Swoop, or Lynx. These airlines offer low fares but may have additional charges for checked baggage or seat selection.

Take Advantage of Sales and Promotions

* Sign up for email alerts from airlines and travel agencies. They often offer flash sales, discounts, and promo codes.

Look for Hidden City Ticketing

* If you're flexible with your itinerary, you can consider "hidden city ticketing." This involves booking a flight with a layover in Montreal or Ottawa, but you only plan to disembark at that layover.

Travel during Off-Peak Hours

* Flying during early morning or late evening flights can sometimes be cheaper than peak hours.

Consider Flying Indirectly

* If direct flights are too expensive, look for flights with a layover or connection. This can often be a more affordable option.

Tips for End of June/Early July Travel

* Be prepared for potential crowds during this time, especially in popular tourist destinations.
* Book your flights and accommodations well in advance to secure the best deals.
* Consider renting a car for flexibility and potential cost savings if traveling to Ottawa.

Conclusion

Finding cheap flights from BC to Montreal or Ottawa is possible with some research and flexibility. By considering off-season travel, being flexible with dates, and utilizing budget airlines, you can save money on your airfare and enjoy your trip without emptying your wallet.
