How long does the layover process at Xiamen airport typically take?

Has anyone flown Xiamen Air before from YVR? Been finding info that the layover process at Xiamen can be quite slow... I have 2.5 hrs to catch my plane to Taipei. Unsure if Gaoqi airport is that bad as some people online suggest.

We just flew from YVR
Xiamen
Singapore and it was veerrryyy slow in Xiamen. And two of the people travelling with me had water damage on their passports and it took forever for them to be approved, they were asked to sign documents saying Xiamen Air wasn't liable if they were denied entry anywhere else. It was a very intense ordeal, we weren't sure if they were even going to be let into the airport

My wife and I flew Xiamen Airlines to Hong Kong on the $465 RT deal in late January. I was pretty apprehensive after reading some of the negative reviews online. However, our flights greatly exceeded expectations. Food, service, seats all decent. We even could have had a free overnight if we hadn't already booked our own hotel for the 23 hour stopover on the way home. As far as the airport in Xiamen goes, yeah, that could be a bit of an issue. We had 4.5 hours layover. Had to clear bags at Xiamen and check back in. Had a bit of a run around in the airport as to where to go for check-in on second leg of flight but everything turned out good. The other factor that could be imprtant is time of arrival - we arrived at 0530, so airport pretty dead at that time and immigration processing quicker.

Flew from yvr through Xiamen to Bali and return in March. We had no troubles. Loved the free hotel that goes with the layover. Airport check in is only open for a short window of time before the flight because of the limited check in area. No trouble with immigration or security. Xiamen air gave great service.

Curious to know how your experience with them ended up! Was the 2.5 hours enough?

Tammy it was adequate but you're going to still have to go through immigrations, exit and re-enter via international departures and go through security. Your bags will go to the final destination though! PM if you need more info

Xiamen Air Layover at Gaoqi Airport

I've been finding info that the layover process at Xiamen can be quite slow... I have 2.5 hrs to catch my plane to Taipei. Unsure if Gaoqi airport is that bad as some people online suggest...

I flew Xiamen Air from YVR to Taipei with a layover in Xiamen in 2019. I had a 2.5 hour layover, and I found the process to be relatively smooth. I arrived at Gaoqi Airport and followed the signs to the transfer area. There was a bit of a wait to go through security, but it wasn't too bad. After security, I had to walk for about 10 minutes to get to my gate. I had plenty of time to spare, and I was able to relax and get some work done before my flight to Taipei.

I've heard that the layover process at Gaoqi Airport can be slow at times, but I didn't experience any significant delays. I would recommend arriving at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight to give yourself plenty of time to go through security and get to your gate.

Tips for a Smooth Layover at Gaoqi Airport

  • Arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight.
  • Follow the signs to the transfer area.
  • Be prepared to wait in line to go through security.
  • Allow yourself plenty of time to get to your gate.
  • If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask a member of the airport staff.
