I flew singapore airlines a few years ago, went from Vancouver to Japan to Singapore where I stopped over a few days, then onto Christchurch. Ive heard some rentals are cheaper if you start on South Island then drop off on north, as less travellers do it that way.

Thank you! We're going for a month, so time in Singapore! Hadn't thought of that. I've traveled Tokyo without hubby, I loved it
. I would love to pop in there with him

Hi Robbin, I had answered a few questions on NZ campervan before so possibly me. I am a fan of Jucy campervans but there are so many to choose from. It's all about booking early to get the good deals as it gets crazy during peak season and booking late. Not sure on your situation but the last one we booked was great for 2 adults with good storage...cooking was easy and well ventilated. NZ has the best camping sites and campervan culture is respected by locals . There are all levels of facilities depending on what you require.... we did a mix of freedom camping and paid (all levels) .

This is the one we booked. Bench area folds into double bed that is decent comfort and I (6ft) was able to stand when bed was down. Britz, Apollo and a ton of other RV rental brands are available.

It's a blast and so many different routes to plan...we have a hard time leaving the wine areas. Everywhere part of the 2 islands are beautiful ...make sure you check out the far north...stunning as you head up the matakana wine region.

Camper Van Rental Tips for New Zealand

Planning a camper van adventure in the beautiful country of New Zealand? Here are some useful tips to help you make the most of your trip.

Preferred Camper Van Rental Companies

New Zealand is home to several reputable camper van rental companies. Here are some of the most popular ones:

  • Maui: Offers a wide range of campervans and motorhomes, from compact vans to luxury models.
  • Britz: Another well-known company with a diverse fleet of campervans and motorhomes.
  • Jucy: Known for their distinctive green campervans, Jucy is a budget-friendly option.
  • Wilderness: Specializes in off-road capable campervans for adventurous travelers.

Comfort and Convenience

While camper van models vary in size and amenities, most modern campervans in New Zealand offer a comfortable living space. Here are some key features to expect:

  • Compact yet functional kitchenette with a stove, fridge, and basic cooking utensils.
  • Convertible bed/seating area for sleeping and relaxing.
  • Auxiliary battery and power outlets for charging devices.
  • Heating and air conditioning for temperature control.
  • Outdoor awning for shade and outdoor living space.

It's important to choose a camper van size that suits your group and travel needs. Larger models offer more space but may be more challenging to maneuver on narrow roads.

Traveling to New Zealand from Vancouver Without Stopping in the US

If you're looking to travel to New Zealand from Vancouver without stopping in the United States, you have a few options:

  • Direct flights: Air New Zealand and Air Canada offer direct flights from Vancouver to Auckland.
  • Connecting flights: You can also fly with a connection in cities like Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane in Australia, or in Hong Kong or Tokyo.
  • Cruise ship: Consider taking a cruise from Vancouver to New Zealand, which typically includes stops in Hawaii and other South Pacific islands.

No matter which route you choose, be sure to check entry requirements, visas, and any COVID-19 travel restrictions well in advance.

With these tips, you'll be well on your way to an unforgettable camper van adventure in the stunning landscapes of New Zealand. Happy travels!
