EVA Air (through Taiwan), Korean Air, and singapore airlines are probably the 3 you're most likely to run across. All 3 would be considered good airlines (better than North american airlines if that means anything), with singapore airlines a step above the other 2.
In 2019 you would have also found more airlines that connect to SE Asia through Japan (all good airlines) and China (not very good airlines). East Asia has been lagging behind the rest of the world with their travel recovery which affects the number of flights and airline choices to SE Asia. Japan should be well on their way now that they're opening back up.
Sabine
Chris Thanks so much! Exactly the kind of answer I was looking for. I’m not seeing singapore airlines for the dates selected and wasn’t sure about Korean Air. Super helpful, thank you!
L
Sabine Korea Air is great! I loved the complimentary slippers & amenity kit (even in economy) . Also had great experiences with EVA all pre-pandemic experience. Singapore airline is one of the world's best airlines, would choose them if you have the opportunity to fly with them.
Sabine
L thank you!!
Omar
Sabine I'm flying to Bali next month and my connection is through Tokyo with JAL and then domestic from Jakarta through Garuda Indonesia.
Wanda
L , I just did a trip Tokyo, Singapore, Bangkok, Vientiane (Laos) on Singapore Air. The service was amazing, even in Economy. I would recommend them if they are one of your options.
Sabine
Wanda amazing, thank you!

Sabine we just booked a cheapo trip to Singapore, with United and ANa. One stop in the US and one in Tokyo, for $750 return , but it takes longer of course .
From Singapore we’re hoping to take budget airlines to get around Malaysia, but you can also get cheapo flights to Indonesia

We flew to Bali on EVA. It is out of Taiwan, so we had a connection in Taipei. We booked it from Vancouver to Denpasar and used points to get from Edmonton to Vancouver. We had an excellent experience. Comfortable seats. Decent spacing. Good food. Attentive staff. We would definitely fly them again. And Bali…..incredible place.

Sabine
Ron amazing, thank you for sharing!
Mike
I flew with AC to Hong Kong and then cathay pacific to Denpasar, Bali. Done that route a couple times no concerns or issues.
Sabine
Michael Chittick thank you.
Ashleigh
We went in 2019 and the travel lady had us on Hong Kong airlines. No issues!
Kerri
I took Eva Air a few years ago and had no issues.

I would stay away from China Airlines (or as I call them China Airlies). I flew on Korean Airlines as well and they are VERY good. In fact, they just won their 18th consecutive year for the title of the best in global customer satisfaction. In 2021 they also won the prestigious title from Air transport World's for top airline.
Robbin
Eicart thanks for posting this! We have a flight booked with them to Thailand this year
Fazman
Take EVA Airlines from Van to Taipan to Bali. Amazing flight and no issues.

May I jump in with a Bali question. My hubby and I have a large credit on delta to use before Dec 2023. Someone just mentioned flying delta from YEG. I have been struggling to think of where we could use the credits (including delta code shares) Would anytime between Feb and end of April work weather wise for Bali?
Sabine
Susan Google says May to Aug/Sept is best. I put Edmonton to delta into Google as well and searched for flights in Feb and there are none. I don’t know about code shares. Google is amazing for finding flights though. You can tell it exactly which airlines you would like to fly with and it gives you the best prices, I have found.
Irene
Susan feb is still raining season. May, June, Sept are the best. Try to avoid july&august as local students are off from school. Bali will be over crowded
Debbie
air canada
Sabine
Debbie thank you!
Tara
Likely you will fly to Vancouver and change over to China air. Then change planes again in Taiwan or Singapore.
We love Bali!
We booked our flights through flight hub. $1000 round trip, no issues.

I traveled to Bali mid November in 2015. It’s considered the shoulder season; but man alive it was
. We had beautiful accommodations in North Bali Poinciana Seaside Resort….3 1/2 north of Denpasar airport!
Regarding the flight from Edmonton to Taipei it was China Air. That was a very difficult flight. The seats are small; I am 5’8” and was really uncomfortable.
I don’t recall the airline from Taipei to Denpasar Bali: it was very comfortable. We have a trip booked to Thailand and will be flying Eva Air. I hear great things about flying with them

Choosing the Right Airline for Your Edmonton to Bali Trip
Planning a trip from Edmonton to Bali can be an exciting adventure, but choosing the right airline can make a significant difference in the overall experience. While Air Canada, WestJet, and Delta are familiar names, you may have come across some lesser-known carriers during your search. Here are some tips to help you make an informed decision.
Reputation and Safety
When traveling long distances, it's essential to prioritize safety and choose an airline with a solid reputation. Major carriers like Air Canada, WestJet, and Delta have established track records and adhere to stringent safety standards. However, some lesser-known airlines may also offer reliable service, but it's wise to research their safety records and reviews before booking.
Routing and Stopovers
The routing and stopovers can significantly impact your travel experience. Some airlines may offer direct flights or fewer stops, reducing travel time and potential delays. On the other hand, others may have multiple stopovers, which could increase the risk of missed connections or lost luggage. Consider the total travel time and the number of stops when comparing flight options.
In-Flight Amenities and Comfort
For a long-haul flight, in-flight amenities and comfort can make a big difference. Major carriers typically offer more legroom, entertainment options, and better in-flight service. However, some budget airlines may cut corners on these amenities to offer lower fares. Consider your personal preferences and whether you're willing to trade comfort for a lower price.
Handling Weather Conditions
Your concern about airlines flying through storms or finding ways to go around them is valid. Major carriers generally have more resources and experience in dealing with adverse weather conditions. They may be better equipped to reroute flights or provide alternatives to ensure passenger safety and comfort.
When possible, opt for reputable airlines with a strong track record of handling weather-related issues efficiently. Check reviews and feedback from previous passengers to get an idea of how different airlines handle such situations.
Conclusion
While lesser-known airlines may offer attractive fares, it's generally advisable to choose well-established carriers for long-haul flights like Edmonton to Bali. Major airlines like Air Canada, WestJet, and Delta often provide a safer, more comfortable, and more reliable travel experience. However, if you decide to go with a lesser-known airline, be sure to research their safety records, reviews, and policies thoroughly.

Curious what airlines going from Edmonton to Bali to choose. I just looked at flights on Google and have never heard of some of them besides air canada, westjet and delta. Would love to hear from anyone who has done this trip. I would much rather fly with large, well-known carriers. I travel to Europe a lot. Some airlines fly through storms and others find ways to go around them.. Thanks so much for any tips you may have!
