Should You Travel to Europe or Southeast Asia This Fall: Weighing the Pros and Cons?

Question:

Hmmm so for whatever reason the Universe is giving me the opportunity to once again give into my WANDERLUST. My problem is I really want to go back to Europe again but I'm torn. I would LOVE to go to the South of France, Germany and Croatia maybe Spain again BUT the weather is starting to cool down. Alternatively I can wait until November and maybe finally go to Thailand and South East Asia... Anyone have some tips?

Spain weather should be okay for a while more! Germany too doesn't get too cold until November. But that being said if you have don't Asia.... Do it! I would just book the cheapest flight option if you really can't decide

I know but Asia won't be until November because its too wet there for October. Europe I would have to leave very soon but there is something holding me back and I just don't know what it is. lol

Diane Katherine I experience that all the time. Then once I book I'm so excited those feelings go away. If you are an over thinker or planner that could be the problem. Anxious minds haha. If your ready to leave ASAP then do Europe but if you can wait then Thailand, Vietnam are well worth it

I know right, I'm a total over thinker. The thing is I was recently laid off so what better time to take the opportunity to go away for 4-5 weeks. I think where I'm stuck is at how tiring it was last year when I went. I went to Portugal, Spain and Italy and walked probably at least 10 km a day every day with maybe a total of a week down days over the 5.5 weeks I was gone. It was amazing and I'm so grateful that I did it you would think I would be thrilled to go do it again.

Yes!! I think you need to do asia if you have that much time off. And air Asia has that flight deal where you can fly to unlimited countries for like $200 or something. Have fun, and whatever decision you make will be the One you need at this time ??

Liz Steefensen Aww thanks have you been through/done the Asia thing what deal are you speaking of and any tips on itinerary to see many places and I prefer to stay in hostels so I can meet other ppl.

Yes I have quite extensively. The thing with Asia is that you can book hostels pretty much as you arrive. I only booked on fancy hotel ahead. DM me if you decide to go and I can give you some more info. I would definitely suggest the whole TLC combo for your first time. Thailand Laos Cambodia maybe Vietnam if too! Even Bali ... 4 weeks is a great amount of time

Id do Asia for sure! Ive been to Thailand 6 times all throughout the year and honestly usually the rain showers last half an hour and just end up cooling it off a bit. It takes away from the unbelievable heat that might be there at other times of the year. However I have seen some street flooding and what not but It didn't take away at all from how much I enjoyed the trip! It actually ended up becoming more of an adventure story. Other parts of Asia are a bit different though so if u plan on going to other countries I'd do some research. I'm absolutely in love with Thailand and would go anytime

I like Europe in the summer. Would rather go somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere in our winter. Asia can be a good choice but watch out for rainy seasons. Do your research on weather if it matters to you. No one needs a typhoon on holiday.

South of France should be pleasant, much of Spain too.

I lived in the south of France for a year, 15 mins bike ride away from the beach, and in November it was very windy and stormy. My husband and I backpacked through SE Asia from October to December and the weather was ideal.... Not too hot or too stormy. The beaches in SE Asia are incredible, the food amazing, and the people and culture unforgettable!

Wanderlust Dilemma: Europe or Southeast Asia?

If you're torn between revisiting the enchanting destinations of Europe or venturing into the vibrant lands of Southeast Asia, fear not! Both options have their unique charms and offer unforgettable experiences. Let's explore the pros and cons to help you make an informed decision.

Europe: Revisiting Old Favorites

The allure of returning to the South of France, Germany, Croatia, and Spain is undeniable. These destinations hold a special place in your heart, and revisiting them can feel like a warm embrace from an old friend. You already know the ins and outs, the hidden gems, and the cultural nuances that make these places so captivating.

However, as you mentioned, the weather in Europe is starting to cool down, which could impact your overall experience. While cooler temperatures can be manageable, some outdoor activities and beach destinations may not be as enjoyable as they would be during the warmer months.

Southeast Asia: Embracing New Adventures

On the other hand, Southeast Asia beckons with its rich tapestry of cultures, breathtaking landscapes, and exotic cuisines. Destinations like Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia offer a captivating blend of ancient traditions and modern vibrancy. The vibrant markets, stunning temples, and pristine beaches of this region are sure to ignite your wanderlust.

Visiting Southeast Asia in November could be an ideal time as it falls within the region's dry season, offering comfortable temperatures and clear skies for exploring. This is also a great opportunity to immerse yourself in new cultures and create unforgettable memories.

Tips for Making a Decision

To help you decide, consider the following tips:

  • Weather Preferences: If you prefer warmer weather and sunny days, Southeast Asia might be the better choice in November. However, if cooler temperatures don't bother you and you enjoy the cozy ambiance of Europe during the fall season, revisiting your European favorites could be a delightful option.
  • Budget: Compare the costs of travel, accommodation, and activities in both regions. Southeast Asia is generally more budget-friendly, allowing you to stretch your travel funds further.
  • Travel Style: Consider your preferred travel style. If you enjoy immersing yourself in new cultures and stepping out of your comfort zone, Southeast Asia might be the perfect adventure. If you prefer revisiting familiar places and savoring the comforts of familiarity, Europe could be the way to go.
  • Travel Goals: Reflect on your travel goals. Are you seeking new experiences and cultural discoveries, or do you want to reconnect with places that hold cherished memories?

Ultimately, the decision rests with you and your personal preferences. Whichever destination you choose, embrace the opportunity to nourish your wanderlust and create lasting memories that will fuel your desire for future adventures.
