Hello, last minute travel to Thailand for a month. Travelling from Canada and hoping for suggestions on Provinces that are a must. We’ve never travelled to a place that isn’t just two week “beach time.” We hope to visit historic sites, a few snorkeling days, beautiful beaches and golf.

Chiang Mai in the north is beautiful with stunning temples, amazing food, elephant sanctuaries and lots to do.
I tend to go to Chiang Mai first to acclimatize and save the crowds in Bangkok for later. If it’s your first time, Bangkok can be overwhelming!
I haven’t been to Hua Hin for years, but it had many golf courses and nice beaches.
I love Krabi (Ao Nang) for the beach and Koh Lanta for a nearby island to relax.
You can also travel to Sukhothai by bus or train. Ancient capital with ruins and lots of history.
From Bangkok a day trip to Ayutthaya is great with bus tour there, then you return by boat.
A couple days in Kanchanaburi was interesting with the WWII history (Bridge over River Kwai) and the death railway.
I check viator to see day tours and trip advisor has lots of info.

I also look at travel videos on YouTube- lots of great videographers giving info and advice.

Was in Chiang Mai/Bangkok last August and the Sunday Night Market is really something. Since you're going to be in Thailand for a month maybe look into a couple of days in Cambodia and visit Siem Reap and the Angkor Wat before the world descends on it again..
We took a day trip out to Doi Inthanon and although it was raining it was worth seeing especially the giant Buddha up there.

Alvin we did this trip a few weeks ago (including Angkor Wat) it was all amazing!!!

Thailand is really huge but a month is great. Do u plan to take the train, or bus or fly between places?? We usually start in Bangkok (5-7nts)—lots to see and do. Be sure to take the local boats up and down the river too.
Ayuthya is a good day trip by local train. there’s a really good non-profit elephant sanctuary to visit just outside of the town—u can rent bicycles and peddle there in 20min
Kanchanaburi is lovely for a few nights
Chiangmai is good for 5-7nts. As others have said, the weekly Sunday night market is wonderful.
Then can dip to a beach place in the south for some R&R. We like Koh Phangnan —the north and west of the island is not party central and has lovely beaches and accommodations. (HaAd Yao in particular)

Jess thank you for a detailed response! Kind of having a small heart attack, seeing as we have 6 days to plan. He’s pretty much wanting to bring golf clubs and I’m trying to explain that exploring really doesn’t jive with those. Hoping to do buses and trains!

Clubs and probably quite inexpensive

Group member check out tripadvisor for itineraries. Long distances if u go north or south so either sacrifice it as a travel day and see something or do overnight travel and experience the sleeper trains or buses.
But personally I’d just wing it

Northern Thailand is beautiful & not very busy w tourists.

So many great suggestions! Only one person mentioned Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle. It’s where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet over the Mekong river. Gorgeous!
There is also Khao Yai national park outside of Bangkok that has ecolodges and hikes through the jungle.
Koh Lipe is my absolute favorite tiny island. Way down in the south in the Andaman sea. Tiny, pristine.
If you decide on Hua Hin, go check out Phraya Nakhon cave with the hidden temple.
If you want to hit up another country, Angkor Wat is a must and my personal fave is Luang Prabang and the Kuang Si waterfalls in Laos. The tiny village is a UNESCO world heritage site for culture and is absolutely charming.
Truthfully - you can go anywhere and have a marvelous time!

If you are going soon be advised that over the next 2-3 months is “smoke season” think a really bad forest fire smoke day for here in BC. In our experience the smoke was so bad in Chiang Mai/Pai you could barely see the mountains or not at all at certain times of day. The smoke wasn’t really bad in the coastal areas/islands which is further away from farming areas.

Not trying to be a Debbie but I never once came across any mention of it online. Perhaps we went in a particularly bad year but we were told it is every year from usually Feb to April. (We travelled in April and it was still going though)
