Inter-Europe flights?
Travelling to Europe this August and flying in and out of London (from Vancouver). Looking for advice / tips / tricks on booking inter- Europe flights. We’re flexible on the airports within London that we go in and out of to Portugal, but dates are fixed, based on our booked accommodation - flights will be multi-city (or 2 x one-ways).
Currently best prices I’ve found online, are usually with RyanAir or EasyJet (2ad, 1ch), depending on the day. We’ve never flown with either of them before.

I just flew with Joon as part of my Air France from YVR to LIS - can't comment on those carriers, but what I"m seeing from the low budget airlines in Europe - Lots of flights, but small planes that they usually ask you to check carry on bags and stuff. But other than that, I had no complaints using Joon as a single point of comparison.

I can compare it to something like Allegiant air - the staff are far more attentive and pleasant to deal with then the American equivalents. LIke for a snack on 2.5 hour flight was like banana bread or ham sandwich with butter. But a really good ham sandwish vs something like Peanuts or pretzels.

Beware of baggage on those cheap flights. Usually the max for a checked bag(which you have to pay for) is 15kg. And it’s €15-€20 per kg over on any weight over that max. Pack very light on your cross Atlantic, if you want to fly budget European carriers.

Flown with both to various places around Europe, the flights are cheap, but they will try and charge you for everything else. Large bags, extra weight, food, drinks, seats, printing passes (this was before you could use the app).
When I fly around Europe I usually just take a carry on. With EasyJet I paid 15 euro to choose an 'executive seat' which also allowed you one extra carry on. So I had my carry on with my clothes, and a small rucksack.

I will add they are great for what they are. Cheap flights that get you from A-B, just make sure you're prepared (have the right bag size, print your ticket) and they're really efficient. The last flight I took was 1.5 hours...it doesn't bother me that the seats are small or you don't get complimentary drinks at that distance.

You get what you pay for. They upcharge for everything but if your ok with it, then it’s reasonable value.

I just flew from YVR to London, then London to Dublin then Dublin to Prague and it was super cheap. But yes, be careful about your baggage allowance... I packed a carry on and paid for the extra personal bag and have been fine.

Like the others said, lots of added fees for bags, seats etc but ok for short flights. Also have a look at TAP Air Portugal.

Be careful of Ryan Air and check the airports they fly into in Europe. they are sometimes not central/main airports and can be a hassle.

EasyJet is good. Used them before and will be again this summer Gatwick to Portugal then back from Barcelona. Pack light!

If you book a cheap flight, with Ryan Air or Easyjet, just be super careful of their baggage and check in policies. Sometimes you have to physically print out your boarding pass at home or they charge a stupid €50 fee to print at the airport. And if your bag is too big for carry on, but you haven’t prepaid to check it, it’ll cost about €100.
Use those airlines for short haul flights too because the seats are CRAMPED. so brutally uncomfortable haha.
Also note that a lot of cheap flights leave from airports out of town, so factor in the cost of getting to the airport. And that if you have to be at the airport at 4am for a 6am flight you’ll probably have to take a taxi, and nothing at the airports are open! (In my experience anyway!!
) and then whatever city you land in, if it’s really early, you might not be able to check in to your next accommodation.

Easy jet every time. Yes, be aware of baggage policies. We fly with just the one carryon and print out boarding passes before we leave. You can check in up to a month in advance!

I just came back from UK and Portugal. I highly recommend jet2 and easyjet. I've taken Ryanair previously and being 5ft 4, I found the leg room to be very tight. My 6ft 1 husband sat on the extra legroom on both easyjet and jet2 and were very satisfied.

Bohee thank you. I don’t believe jet2 covers our routes for Porto and Lisbon. But the extra legroom will probably be a must if we go with EasyJet, due to my husband’s height.

Karina also try TAP. I've taken TAP to Porto and Lisbon. And in Lisbon, I highly recommend Vila Garden guesthouse. Great value and wonderful staff and easy to get to and from

TAP is great for flights to/from Portugal. Also check Norwegian Air, they’re a bit better than Easyjet and Ryanair in my opinion. But all the low cost carriers in Europe are pretty good, just watch the baggage fees, as others have mentioned.

Easyjet is good. They also give you 40-50% discounts with Europcar.

I’ve flown with both and had no problems. Just be aware they go into smaller airports and you may have to pay more to get into the city.
