I've been to both. It depends on what you like as they're both wonderful destinations. How much time do you have? Can you do both?
Steph
I have 6 days, I would rather do one city in depth
Jodi
Ooh, Vietnam is so big. HaLong bay is beautiful. I really enjoyed Hoi An as well. Cambodia has Angkor Wat. I'm not helping, am I?
Janet
I preferred Vietnam. Although both were terrific.
Steph
What makes your prefer Vietnam? I am leaning towards Vietnam and in particular Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi
Asim
Hanoi is a very busy hustling bustling city. If you go there then you need to go to Halong Bay. Gadverntures has Vietnam only 1 week north to south or 2 week Vietnam cambodia. Little over $100pp per day incl transportations, hotels, breakfasts and guides also some meals.bargain
Janet
Also you have boat trips in Halong Bay, beaches and lots of interesting places between the two largest cities. Start Hanoi and travel by land to Ho chi Minh.
Although Angkor wat is tough to beat...
You could maybe do Phnom Penh and Angkor wat, as well as Vietnam south?
Asim
I've done both on this trip below. Look through the itinerary, see what suits your interests https://www.gadventures.com/.../indochina.../2837/itinerary/

Cambodia, Siem Reap is breath taking. I was in so much awe with the temples especially Angkor Wat.

I've done both and both are amazing! I would suggest Vietnam for a short trip wth your dad as there is tons to do and it's a bit easier to get around.
Ken
Cambodia was great but I think Vietnam was far more interesting and varied. Both are super cheap. 6 days? Hanoi is a great choice for 6 days as Ha long Bay is a great day trip. Hanoi is beautiful, walkable, and the pace is much slower than Ho Chi Mihn.

MAYANMAR!!!
Liv
I've done both and Vietnam was by far the best! Hanoi was an amazing city, my favourite in Vietnam! I would go back to Hanoi in a heart beat. I also agree with those above a night out on Halong bay from Hanoi is a beautiful short trip!

Hoi An, Vietnam. You can walk everywhere. You can rent a bicycle and ride around town. It's quaint. Has an old Japanese feel to it as it used to be a major port for Japan. You can also get custom suits that are gorgeous for $200-$400...maybe a nice surprise for your dad. We got one and 3 shirts all done in 3 days which included 3 fittings. Was $280CDN. Look up the town online. You can't go wrong!
Sanja
Ive heard rave reviews on Cambodia. Vietnam 50/50
Donna
Cambodia lots of tourists... go to mayanmar!!
Danny
ivi would say Cambodia --Smaller country to travel in a short time --You can get from PP airport to Siem Reap and Angkor Watt is an amazing way to spend 2 or 3 days -- You can have a lot of other options as well for another 3 days where its not far to travel in Cambodia ----if you do head for Vietnam id say hit up Hanoi and visit Halong Bay for a 3 night boat tour ---it was amazing -----

I've been to both. If I had to pick one place, it would be Hanoi Vietnam with an overnight trip to Halong Bay. Hanoi is much less modern than Ho Chi Minh City - very hectic, but less westernized. I loved Cambodia, but it was so hot and humid there, Hanoi has much nicer weather. Hope that helps.
Andrea
With only six days, I'd go to Cambodia. Two days Phnom Penh and four days Siem Reap.
Asim
You can't go all the way there for one week anyways. So if you go for two weeks you can see both.
Karen
Just toured Vietnam, loved Hanoi and Hoi An. Took the overnight train from Hanoi to Danang, then a taxi to Hoi An. Visit the old city in Hoi An, no cars allowed, just a walking and bicycles are allowed. NHINHIHOTEL great place to stay, breakfast is included. HCMC too busy and hectic.

Just came back from Vietnam on Wednesday, was in Cambodia last year. Vietnam is much better, but 6 days is really not enough time for the whole country. You could go to Hanoi and then trips to Halong Bay & Sapa, but probably not much else. Might be better to do Cambodia for 6 days, you could go to Angkor Wat from Siem Reap and then go to Phnom Penh, that pretty much covers Cambodia.
Lukas
Nam for sure.
Da Lat, Hoi An, Phong Nha Park are all great options

Do you want him to have the thought, "Oh my goodness, this is the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my life!" ? - If so, Angkor Wat/Cambodia.
Ho Chi Mihn City, I lived there this year for a while. Great city, but it's extremely busy and very filthy. Crossing the street alone can be precarious, and it's not great for older folks in that regard. See this example video. This is real, everyday kind of stuff, not a special weird occasion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3Jkzj7WyzE
Angkor Wat is literally one of the 7 Ancient Wonders of the World. Siem Reap is a wonderful town with a great night market and it's not as busy as a major city. It's also the #1 rated place to Visit in Asia as per tripadvisor, granted Hanoi comes in a close second.

Vietnam was incredible. Highly recommended a few days in the South and a few days up north. Spectacular landscapes, amazing people, great food.
Cambodia has the temples which were awesome, but overall I loved Vietnam

A.I. says...
Vietnam or Cambodia for Dad's 67th Birthday?
If you're deciding between Vietnam and Cambodia to bring your father for his 67th birthday, both destinations offer unique experiences and rich cultural heritage. However, based on personal experience and preferences, I would recommend Vietnam for this special occasion.
Why Vietnam?
Vietnam is a beautiful country with a diverse landscape, ranging from the bustling cities to the serene countryside. Here are a few reasons why I believe Vietnam would be an excellent choice for your father's birthday celebration:
- Cuisine: Vietnamese cuisine is renowned for its delicious and healthy dishes, featuring fresh herbs, vegetables, and various aromatic spices. From the iconic pho (noodle soup) to banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches), your father is sure to enjoy the flavors and diversity of Vietnamese food.
- History and Culture: Vietnam has a rich history and vibrant culture that is deeply rooted in its traditions. You can explore ancient temples, visit traditional villages, and learn about the country's past through museums and cultural sites. This can be an enriching experience for your father.
- Natural Beauty: Vietnam boasts breathtaking natural landscapes, from the stunning Halong Bay with its limestone karst formations to the picturesque rice terraces in Sapa. These scenic destinations offer opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment of nature's wonders.
- Accessibility: Vietnam has a well-developed tourism infrastructure, making it relatively easy to navigate and explore. Many hotels and attractions cater to the needs of senior travelers, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for your father.
While Cambodia is also a fascinating destination, Vietnam's diverse offerings, culinary delights, and rich cultural heritage make it an ideal choice for celebrating your father's 67th birthday in a memorable way.
Ultimately, the decision will depend on your father's preferences and interests. However, Vietnam provides a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and culinary delights that can create lasting memories for this special occasion.
