If you've never been to those places then I'd say it's perfect because each one is different and you should have the experience. For myself now that I've been to all of them I would skip Cambodia and spend less time in Thailand and do more on the coast of Vietnam. Vietnam is Thailand 20 yrs ago. Either way your trip will be amazing!

I disagree the Gulf of Thailand is so nice Koh Tao is my favourite

Ryan

Tammy Have you been down the coast of Vietnam?

I agree less time in Cambodia but Angkor Wat is a do not miss. Check out Hanoi, somewhere north of Hanoi ( Ban Gioc? Around Sapa?) HoiAn/DaNang, Phu Kwok, the Mekong delta, DaLat (crazy house) . . . Thailand is not 20 years ago (or 40 years) ago but its still more beautiful than the others and the people remain smiling and good fun, although there are pockets over-touristed that I’d avoid. Number one being Khao san road in Bangkok, number 2 being Ko PhiPhi. Check out Krabbi, Ko Tao, or Ko Chang, there’s many others. Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Pai. If you’re going to Malaysia, we loved Langkawi.

Linda I have been to Angkor Wat twice and I would go again so fascinating

Tammy I know. It was so hot when we were there and we had only so much time. Eouldn’t it be nice to take time and go as many times as you wanted? With pool day breaks in between? I love this part of the world.

If you can go up in to Chang Mai in the north of Thailand. It’s beautiful up there and we enjoyed it so much better than Bangkok.

I would disagree with other poster and spend time in Cambodia, it’s an amazing country and the people are wonderful. If I could re do my trip I would have spent more time in Cambodia.

We did Vietnam this past year and are going back to Thailand in February cause I missed the food and the people. Not the same in Vietnam.

I think suggestions would depend on what your interests really are? Into the culture, wildlife, history, beaches, food etc? Everyone has different needs from their experience.

Profile picture of Amy

Amy

Jackie culture, food, the people and history are what we enjoy.

Amy

Did you all book accommodations in advance or as you arrived at each location?!

Profile picture of Linda

Linda

I think if you’ve decided on your itinerary and you want 3 star or better book in advance. Depending on the season even the good hostels fill up. Last minute you can end up paying more for less. You can also, however get great last minute deals and change your plans with the other.

Ive never booked ahead, and never had an issue. There are so many options in every area, that can accommodate any budget.

Hoi an in Vietnam is missing

Profile picture of Stephani

Stephani

Agreed. After a month in Vietnam this summer I would recommend Hoi An too. Probably over Saigon. But big city Saigon is worth seeing too. But Hanoi really stole my heart..

Profile picture of Tessa

Tessa

ha, I echo your sentiments! Hoi An is #1... followed by Hanoi
Saigon is ok.

Profile picture of Holly

Holly

You are trying to do way too much in 3 weeks. You will miss more than you see with an itinerary like this.

Profile picture of Tessa

Tessa

Nah. It’s fine.

Profile picture of Holly

Holly

Tessa Leigh we'll agree to disagree then. You could spend a proper 3 weeks in any one of these countries....trying to do all 3 is doing them all an injustice.

Profile picture of Tessa

Tessa

Depends on how you operate. I’m bored after 3 days and ready for the next thing. I’m the one bankrolling the trip so I’ll decide what an injustice is. OP can too.

Profile picture of Holly

Holly

Tessa Leigh i'm not going to argue with you. You asked for advice...I'm giving it to you. Take it. Leave it. I don't care. Trying to see 3 countries in 3 weeks is spending a whole lot of time travelling and not much time seeing. I've been to all 3 on seperate trips and get restless easily...I managed a minimum of 2.5 weeks in each - Thailand, 3 seperate times. But... You know you so enjoy.

Profile picture of Tessa

Tessa

I’m not OP, lol.

Profile picture of Holly

Holly

Tessa Leigh I don't know what OP is but I'm glad you aren't it.

Profile picture of Tessa

Tessa

The original poster? The person actually asking for advice? Kinda rude response. Have a nice evening.

Profile picture of Holly

Holly

Not rude...you wrote you were bankrolling this so I thought you were accompanying the OP. Seems a reasonable assumption. What could be misconstrued as rude would be not offering your opinion to the OP and instead calling me out on mine. Just sayin....

Profile picture of Brandon

Brandon

I also agree thats a lot of travel for 3 weeks. If you fly from location to location it will definitely benefit your time, but not your budget

Profile picture of Holly

Holly

Brandon agreed. I have often thought flying saves time but in the long run...often the time saved is minimal with the required check in time and all that jazz. Plus it is expensive and a pain in the rear if you have to check your luggage. Plus travel to and from airports is always more expensive and time consuming than you think it will be.

Profile picture of Tessa

Tessa

Gotta remember what part of the world this is in. Transportation including flights is dirt cheap in SE Asia. I never paid more than $100 and usually $20-$50 a flight and it does save substantial time, even coming and going from airports. It depends heavily on your budget and whether or not you check luggage. Carry on only is fast.

Profile picture of Brandon

Brandon

Tessa Leigh yes, you are correct as well. Holly and I are only giving input that was asked for. Sounds like you know what you want out of this trip, so enjoy!

Profile picture of Tessa

Tessa

It’s not my trip guys! Lol

Profile picture of Brandon

Brandon

You made the very unclear by saying youre "bankrolling the trip, so youll decide what an injustice is"

Profile picture of Tessa

Tessa

Dude, really? Read the posters name! It’s at the top of every comment chain. It’s not on me if you don’t read...

Profile picture of Brandon

Brandon

Yes... I csn see that youre not the "op". But youre speaking as if you were going with and paying. Anyways, we're only trying to ne helpful. Not feed into any sort of Facebook arguement. Cheers

Profile picture of Linda

Linda

I too think it may be more fun to see less places for longer times. There is a lot to see and do in all 3 countries. Its not like you never get to come back.

Profile picture of Amy

Amy

Thank you everyone for the input! I have a lot to think about in the way of potential adjustments

Profile picture of Brandon

Brandon

I lived in laos for over a year, and tour guided through Thailand as well. Currently planning a trip to Vietnam, and back to laos and Thailand. Im always happy to share tips and information!

Profile picture of Amy

Amy

Brandon so if we adjusted our trip to go to 2 country in that area, which 2 would you recommend? We are a family of 4 ( teenagers 14/17), very adventurous travellers; not the typical “tourists”. We like remote areas, we love trying new foods and enjoy getting to know the locals.
