October is not a great time to go. It's very rainy. We were there in nov and it rained most days but roads into the national parks were clear and everything was open.
Kevin
The local school year runs from mid-February to mid-December, so that means the locals take their holidays during December and January. Easter week (semana santa) is also a big holiday and again the locals take holidays, so these times are busy and more expensive. If you are planning for November it is the end of the rainy season so you should be okay. It's a beautiful country and you are correct, there are a lot of choices. It all depends on what you want to do.

Thanks Kevin. We would like an all inclusive as we do not have to think about too much. What part of Costa Rica would you suggest?
Kevin
If you are looking for an A.I. then anything along the Pacific side and around the Gulf of Nicoya will be good. It's close to the LIR airport. Sometimes there are travel deals on groupon for CR, but they handcuff you to specific times and have lots of conditions. The only A.I. I can speak to is the Barcelo at Tamarindo and I thought it was average, but you should be able to package something with AC or westjet. I'm in the central valley and it takes me about 90 minutes to get to the Gulf of Nicoya.

Kevin do you know anything about the turtles in Nicoya?

FYI on google flights at moment cheap flights March last 2 weeks. 450$-500$ all in round trip. Just booked 6 tickets March 14-29

To much to write! Tamarindo, Rio Celeste, La Fortuna, Dominical, Drake Bay. All depends on what want to see. Also as noted above Oct. not great time, can you move to early Dec.? We went to Dominical and Drake Bay during that time and it was awesome. I have some accommodation suggestions also if you want - narrow down your plan first though! And please don't do an all-inclusive. If want that, go to Mexico!
Judy
I agree with Darren, I would not do an AI, in CR.
We were in Sierpe yesterday, and took an all day snorkel tour. Was awesome.

It's the rainy season and it gets brutal...some other season Google the tree house inn in Costa...there's a place for a honeymoon!

Skip the resort, rent a SUV and do it on your own!! That how we did it and it was a blast.

We just got back from our 3rd trip to Costa Rica although this was our first time visiting in November. We went from Nov 10 to 25th and the weather was obviously not as good as it is in March/April when we usually go but was still enjoyable. I did find a massive difference in the bugs. They were absolutely horrible and most of our party looked like they had the measles. We have never experienced that during our previous trips. Still enjoyed our trip as we love CR. We rented a house, scooters and gold carts his time around and just did our own thing. We usually stay at the Riu Guanacaste which is also fabulous.

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate all of the feedback

Currently planning my trip there to in spring 2017. First time there BUT I've been finding lots to do in the Central Valley area over to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca and Manzanillo. The Caribbean side looks amazing. There's a Jaguar rescue center over there. I'm looking into La Paz waterfall, Rio pacuare etc I'm not sure what your interests are but what I did was picked up a book on Costa Rica by lonely planet. I've done that with every international vacation I've taken and there's TONS of great tips.

See the post a few down from Erin, lots of info. I think I was getting your posts mixed up!
Everything I said is relevant to both of you though. Pura Vida!

Is traveling comparable to the safety of Hawaii or that of Mexico?
Judy
We have found it to be very safe. Just use common sense and don't leave cameras or luggage in your car and go to beach for the afternoon.
Judy
We are in CR for 6 weeks right now. Amazingly beautiful every where. We have in the past been to many different areas, all nice but different. Depends what you want to see/do.
October and first half of November is the the ideal time to go to CR. Will be cheaper as it is low season, but will likely hit some rain.
Amazing country, we have been here many times.
Bobbie
Thanks Judy. Where do you stay? We are looking for some adventure but also rest. I was looking into all inclusive so I don't have to think about much but not sure if that's the best way to go
Judy
We generally stay at Playa Hermosa, in the Guncastle area. Villa Del Sevno.
This time we are checking out several areas around Quepos, so staying in different places.
Krystal
It's rainy season till about Mid. Nov. haha so keep that in mind, depending on where you are going! It's beautiful! I have a place on the Pacific coast, you'll fall in love!
