My fiancé and I are thinking of going to Punta Cana for our honeymoon. We are getting married this September and going on our honeymoon the day after, but I am told it is hurricane season. Has anyone been during this time? I've heard that it just could mean that it rains more than usual. Thanks!!

We went in the first week of September. Extremely windy every day but made the 40+ temps bearable. We did miss out on our ocean fishing trip however. It was cancelled due to the wind.

It will likely be windy and overcast but still nice. Typical rains too. The DR gets more annual rain than Vancouver BC. Waters can be rough though for swimming and will be red flagged

Punta Cana Hurricane Season

Yes, it is hurricane season in Punta Cana in September.

However, this does not mean that you will definitely experience a hurricane during your honeymoon. The hurricane season in Punta Cana typically runs from June 1st to November 30th, with the peak of the season occurring in September and October. During this time, the chances of a hurricane making landfall in Punta Cana are about 1 in 25.

If you are concerned about the possibility of a hurricane ruining your honeymoon, you can purchase travel insurance. This will protect you from financial losses if your trip is canceled or delayed due to a hurricane.

Even if a hurricane does not make landfall in Punta Cana, it can still affect your trip. Hurricanes can cause heavy rain, flooding, and wind damage. This can make it difficult to get around and can also damage or destroy your hotel or other accommodations.

If you are planning to travel to Punta Cana during hurricane season, it is important to be prepared. Be sure to pack plenty of food and water, and have a plan in place in case you need to evacuate.

Here are some additional tips for traveling to Punta Cana during hurricane season:

  • Book your flights and accommodations in advance. This will help you secure the best rates and availability.
  • Purchase travel insurance. This will protect you from financial losses if your trip is canceled or delayed due to a hurricane.
  • Pack plenty of food and water. This will help you stay hydrated and fed in case of a hurricane.
  • Have a plan in place in case you need to evacuate. This may include identifying a safe place to stay and arranging transportation.
  • Stay informed about the latest hurricane forecasts. This will help you make informed decisions about your travel plans.
